FMGE Best Books and Resources 2026: Subject-Wise Books & Study Materials

FMGE Best Books and Resources 2026: Subject-Wise Books & Study Materials

Irshad AnwarUpdated on 28 Oct 2026, 12:40 PM IST

FMGE Best Books and Resources 2026: The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) tests 19 subjects in 300 MCQs, so a long reading list offers little value. FMGE best books and resources 2026 must include one main book per subject, one MCQ bank, and previous year questions. Most book lists online repeat an older list, and some titles and editions no longer match what is sold today. A good FMGE resource list should cover all subjects once, build clinical reasoning through case-based MCQs, and make revision fast. This article provides subject-wise books with authors.

FMGE Best Books and Resources 2026

Careers360 topper interviews, including the June 2025 AIR 1 and a January 2026 topper (237 marks), name too many resources and too little revision as the biggest mistake. Careers360's FMGE 90-day study plan asks for two full passes of the syllabus and a daily mistake log. That plan needs a small, fixed set of books.

Book lists have a second problem. The table below uses the title and edition found in listings in October 2026. Check the edition on the cover before buying, because publishers revise these books often.

    Subject (marks)

    Book

    Author

    Edition listed

    Medicine (33)

    Self Assessment & Review: Medicine (Part A & B)

    Mudit Khanna

    14th (Jaypee), reprint 2025–26

    Surgery (32)

Surgery for PGMEE (named "Review of Surgery" in many lists)

    Ashish Gupta, Amit Tripathi

    14th (Pulse), 2020 listing

    OBG (30)

Self Assessment & Review: Obstetrics, with Gynecology as a separate volume

    Sakshi Arora Hans

    13th (Jaypee)

    Community Medicine (30)

Review of Preventive and Social Medicine (Including Biostatistics)

    Vivek Jain

    16th (Jaypee), 2026

    Pharmacology (13)

    Review of Pharmacology

    Gobind Rai Garg, Sparsh Gupta

    16th (Jaypee)

    Pathology (13)

Review of Pathology and Genetics, or Complete Review of Pathology & Hematology

Garg and Gupta, or Praveen Kumar Gupta and Vandana Puri

    14th (Jaypee), or 7th (CBS, 2022)

Marks follow Careers360's FMGE subject-wise weightage. The first four subjects carry 125 of the 300 marks, so start buying there.

FMGE Best Books and Resources 2026: Where Book Lists Disagree

Pathology has two common choices. Garg and Gupta's book is compact, with chapter-wise solved MCQs, golden points and mnemonics. Gupta and Puri's book is much longer (the 5th edition ran to 770 pages) and includes conceptual and clinical boxes. Choose the compact book if you have already studied Pathology well. Choose the longer book if you need to rebuild concepts. Do not use both.

For surgery, the list names "Review of Surgery" by Amit Tripathi and Ashish Gupta, while the listed title is Surgery for PGMEE, so confirm the cover title before you order. The list also gives Rachna Chaurasia or Arora as alternatives for Surgery and Microbiology, but their current editions were not confirmed.

FMGE Best Books for Basic Sciences and Short Subjects

For Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine and Psychiatry, lists point to MBK's Quick Review Series for FMGE/NExT (M. Balakrishnan, P. Harinath and Seyed Abdul Cader, 3rd edition 2020, with a 4th edition 2021 listed). It works as a single quick-revision set. If you prefer one MCQ bank across all subjects, use “FMGE Solutions for MCI Screening Examination” by Deepak Marwah and Siraj Ahmad (CBS, 5th edition, 2022).

    • NBEMS demo test. The official demo test before the June 2026 session included video-based questions, according to the Health Ministry. Use any demo test NBEMS posts to get used to the computer-based interface.

    • Memory-based papers. NBEMS does not release the official paper. Careers360's FMGE question paper page collects papers rebuilt from candidate recall, and they work as practice, not as official documents.

How to Use FMGE Books Without Falling Behind

Many candidates study abroad with limited patient contact and a syllabus that differs from India's. So, a book alone cannot fix that gap. Use the books in this order:

    1. Read each subject once from the main book and mark the topics you cannot explain.

    2. Solve MCQs on those topics straight away and note each wrong answer in a mistake log.

    3. Take the second pass from your marked notes, not from the whole book.

    4. Practise image-based and long clinical-stem questions, since the paper has both.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: How many books should I use for each FMGE subject?
    A:

Use one main book and one MCQ source for each subject. Careers360 topper interviews list too many resources as a common mistake. So, repeat the same books instead of adding new ones.

Q: Does NBEMS release an official FMGE question paper?
    A:

No. NBEMS does not release the paper after the exam, so the previous year papers available online are rebuilt from candidate recall. Use them for pattern and practice.

Q: Which book should I start with for FMGE?
    A:

Start with the subjects that carry the most marks: Medicine, Surgery, OBG and Community Medicine, which together account for 125 of the 300 marks. Move to Pathology, Pharmacology and the basic sciences after that.
