In the past decade the FMGE pass rate has relatively increased. When the exam was introduced the FMGE pass rate trend was very low as the candidates were not much aware of the exam pattern and also preparation materials were not available. As the years passed the FMGE pass percentage saw a significant increase. Check the details below.
FMGE trends India in 2016–2018: FMGE pass rate during 2016-2018 saw slight improvements in pass rates compared to the previous years, reaching around 20-25%. The reasons behind the rise in rates could be better preparation among students and increased access to preparatory resources such as online coaching, mock tests, and study materials aligned with the FMGE syllabus.
FMGE difficulty trends in 2019: In the year 2019, the FMGE pass percentage increased to 26%, showing a noticeable improvement. As per the reports, the increase in the FMGE pass/fail ratio was due to the increasing awareness among students about the exam pattern and focus on Indian clinical practices. Also, many aspirants began prioritizing their FMGE preparation during their internships or final years of study abroad by utilizing the FMGE practice tests.
FMGE pass rate in 2020–2021: This was the phase of COVID-19 pandemic which disrupted global education systems, including the preparation for FMGE. Despite these challenges, the FMGE pass rate remained relatively stable at around 23–24%. The pandemic highlighted the need for adaptability, pushing students toward online learning platforms, which gained popularity during this period.
FMGE results improvement in 2022–2023: The period of 2022-2023 saw a significant increase in pass rates, with figures reaching approximately 35%. The factors that contributed to the FMGE pass percentage increase were revised preparation strategies, quality of foreign medical education and policy reforms. There were discussions about replacing FMGE with the National Exit Test (NExT) that led to extra preparation efforts among students. Despite the increase in the pass percentage, no Indian student from 90 foreign medical colleges was able to crack the FMGE exam in 2022. However, the 2022 pass percentage at 22 foreign medical colleges was 100%.
The FMGE results 2024 December session have shown much improvement. The pass percentage is higher as compared to previous year. As per statistics, FMGE results 2024 are highest in the last three sessions. A pass percentage of 29.62% was recorded.

The NEET scorecard has a one-year validity period.
