MCC has introduced six major changes in the NEET PG counselling 2026 process. All the changes introduced by MCC in NEET PG 2026 counselling are listed below.
One of the biggest changes in NEET PG counselling 2026 is the revised process for candidates who want to upgrade their allotted seat. In 2025, NEET PG candidates had to physically report to the allotted college before they could indicate their willingness for upgradation. In 2026, MCC has divided the process into two options - Freeze and Float.
Candidates who are satisfied with their allotted seat and do not want upgradation can choose Freeze. Under the Freeze option:
Candidates will keep their allotted seat.
Physical joining at the allotted institute is required.
Original documents will be verified at the institute.
Admission fees have to be paid at the institute.
The seat will be finalised after successful document verification.
If the documents are valid, the admission will proceed. If a discrepancy is found, the seat may be cancelled.
Candidates who want to participate in the next round for a possible seat upgrade can choose Float. Under the Float option:
Candidates submit their willingness for upgradation online.
Documents are uploaded on the MCC portal.
The institute's nodal officer verifies the uploaded documents online.
Candidates do not have to physically report to the allotted college at this stage.
If required, candidates may be asked to re-upload unclear or incorrect documents.
The relieving letter for an upgraded candidate will be generated online.
Another important change is the introduction of online resignation/surrender for Float candidates. A Float candidate can surrender the allotted seat online by following these steps:
Log in through Candidate Login on the MCC portal.
Select Resignation / Surrender.
Submit the resignation request online.
The seat will be surrendered if the request is submitted within the MCC-prescribed time limit.
However, this online resignation facility is applicable to Float candidates. Freeze candidates will continue to resign by physically reporting to the allotted institute.
The NEET PG NRI quota counselling process has also been changed for 2026.
In 2025, candidates seeking NRI quota eligibility had to email their supporting documents to MCC before each round. In NEET PG counselling 2026, the process will be completed through the MCC portal.
Candidates will have to:
Select the NRI quota and relevant sub-category (I-IV) during MCC registration.
Upload the required supporting documents on the MCC portal.
The MCC NRI Document Verification Committee will verify the documents online.
If a discrepancy is found, the candidate will receive an SMS/email alert.
Candidates will get an opportunity to correct the documents.
Once the candidate is converted to the NRI category, NRI seats will become available for choice filling.
The online conversion will be provisional. Original documents will still be checked at the time of admission. Candidates who miss the NRI process in Round 1 can try again in Round 2.
The PwD medical assessment process has also been updated for NEET PG counselling 2026. The 2026 process includes a dedicated PwD chapter with the full NMC 2026 guidelines. The number of listed medical assessment boards has also increased significantly. According to the MCC document:
There are 65 listed PwD medical assessment boards.
This is an increase from 16 centres in the previous process.
Appellate boards have also been included.
This is intended to provide a more structured medical assessment process for candidates applying under the PwD category.
The NEET PG counselling 2026 internship cut-off date has also been extended. For the 2026 academic year, the internship completion deadline has been moved from July 31 to September 30. Candidates should therefore carefully check the internship eligibility requirements before participating in NEET PG counselling 2026.
MCC has also expanded the availability of its counselling support. The call centre is now listed as a 24x7 help desk. Earlier, the call centre operated from 9 AM to 8:30 PM and remained closed on Sundays. A new MCC email ID, mcc2026@gov.in, has also been listed for the 2026 counselling process.
Candidates should keep the following points in mind during MCC NEET PG counselling 2026:
Understand the difference between Freeze and Float before selecting an option.
Keep scanned copies of all required documents ready.
Candidates opting for Float should regularly check the MCC portal for document verification updates.
Upload clear and valid documents within the prescribed time.
NRI candidates should complete the online document verification process carefully.
Candidates applying under PwD should check the applicable medical assessment requirements.
Check the internship eligibility deadline before counselling.
Keep checking MCC notifications, SMS and email alerts for important updates.
Candidates should follow the prescribed deadlines for resignation or surrender.
