According to the first-hand experience of the students, the NEET PG 2026 difficulty level was moderate. Nonetheless, there wasn’t complete uniformity in the student reaction to the NEET PG 2026 paper. NEET PG 2026 came with a huge shift in the question paper. The number of questions went down from 200 to 180 while the total time remained the same, i.e. 3 hours and 30 minutes. Accordingly, the total marks also decreased from 800 to 720.

The paper was divided into five sections with 36 questions in each. Each section was allotted 42 minutes before locking the section and moving to the next one.

In theory, a reduction in the number of questions means additional time for each question. However, practical experience of giving this exam reveals why this does not imply a reduction in difficulty of the paper. Questions requiring interpretation and understanding easily consumed much of the 42 minutes assigned to each section. In fact, some test-takers complained about sections 1 and 2 being time-consuming.

Hence, a reduction in the number of questions cannot be taken to mean that the overall difficulty of NEET PG 2026 was reduced.

Based on initial reactions from students, the level of difficulty of the paper appears to be moderate.

A frequent comment made by students is that the paper is practically oriented. Many students noted that the questions posed were based on clinical scenarios and did not require just an answer from the candidate.

Another frequently made comment by students is that of long questions with similar choices. Long questions with related choices can take extra time since candidates will need to read the clinical scenario thoroughly to choose between the related options.

Some students consider the paper moderate in difficulty, whereas some consider it more difficult compared to other NEET PG papers. This is expected since individual difficulty varies depending on the subjects and topics covered in the paper.

NEET PG 2026: How Difficult Was It Compared With Previous Years?

NEET PG 2026 pattern has generally been moderate in nature, though there may be some variations from one year to another.

NEET PG 2023: Generally moderate in nature, with most questions direct in nature.

NEET PG 2024: The test was taken twice a day, with both shifts being generally moderate to difficult in nature. Day 2 was generally found to be more difficult compared to Day 1.

NEET PG 2025: Generally easy to moderate in nature, with many candidates finding it comparatively easier than last year.

NEET PG 2026: The initial reactions are somewhat conflicting, but the general impression about the test seems to be leaning towards moderate, especially due to lengthy clinical questions, practical questions, and answer options which were closely related.

So, NEET PG 2026 does not seem to be an exceptionally difficult test. It was neither an extremely easy test as the easier NEET PG papers have been recently. The most appropriate description according to the present data is moderate.
