The MCC has issued a notice regarding the nationality change for the round 2 counselling of NEET PG 2025. Many candidates are seeing it as a NEET PG 2026 nationality change, which is not the case. This notice from MCC is for those candidates who want to change their nationality from Indian to NRI for the round 2 NEET PG counselling 2025. All such candidates need to send their relevant documents through email from December 1 to 3, 2025. Students must note that this MCC’s notice is for round 2 counselling and has nothing to do with NEET PG 2026 nationality change. Read the full article to know comprehensively about the NEET PG nationality change, eligibility criteria, documents required, and more.

The NEET PG nationality change is the process where a candidate registered as an Indian candidate wants to change his/her nationality to NRI candidate. By changing the nationality to NRI, candidates can participate for NRI quota seats, mainly in private/ deemed universities during the NEET PG counselling 2025.
To convert their nationality from Indian to NRI, candidates need to fulfil certain eligibility criterias. These required eligibility criteria are as follows -
The candidate must have qualified the NEET PG 2025 exam and must hold the admit card and scorecard
The Candidate must have a sponsoring NRI parent or close relative as defined by the Supreme Court (e.g., real brother/sister, real uncle/aunt, grandparents).
The NRI sponsor must be ordinarily residing abroad with valid proof (Passport, Visa, Residency/Work Permit, OCI/PIO card, Embassy certificate).
Candidate must have emailed all required documents in a single email within the MCC’s official deadline (December 1 to 3, 2025)
To change nationality from Indian to NRI, candidates are required to submit the following documents in a single mail -
NRI Status Proof of Sponsor
Embassy/Consulate NRI Certificate
Affidavit by NRI sponsor
Family Tree/Relationship Certificate
Class 10 and 12 marksheet and pass certificate
Birth certificate
Annexure - I declaration attached in the MCC notice, confirming their intent to convert to NRI status.
Candidates who want to change their nationality from Indian to NRI should know these points before the conversion.
Once the candidate’s category is converted to NRI, it stays that way for all rounds of NEET PG counselling 2025. Students cannot switch back to the Indian category afterward.
If a candidate becomes an NRI candidate, he/she will no longer get any minority quota benefits like Muslim Minority or Jain Minority quotas.
All NRI documents, especially the Embassy certificate are checked by the Ministry of External Affairs. If anything is fake, the candidate’s seat can be cancelled, and serious legal action can follow.
