Several factors affect the NEET PG 2024 marks vs rank distribution, which are explained below:
Exam Difficulty Level: A tougher exam can lower overall scores, shifting the rank distribution. In 2024, the exam was conducted in two shifts, and normalisation affected the ranks of students, with shift two students getting a better rank even after having fewer marks than the shift 1 students.
Number of Candidates: With over 2 lakh aspirants competing for approximately 70,645 seats, the competition is high. A larger candidate pool increases the fluctuation in rank, even with a difference of a single mark
Seat Availability: The number of available seats in government and private colleges impacts the marks vs rank. Clinical branches like Radiology and Dermatology require higher ranks than non-clinical ones like Pathology.
If multiple candidates score the same marks, the NBE applies tie-breaker criteria to determine the NEET PG rank vs marks:
Candidate having overall lesser number of negative responses in the entire question paper will be placed at a better merit position
Candidate having lesser number of negative responses in the Section A of the question paper will be placed at a better merit position
Candidate having lesser number of negative responses in the Section B of the question paper will be placed at a better merit position
Candidate having lesser number of negative responses in the Section C of the question paper will be placed at a better merit position
Candidate having lesser number of negative responses in the Section D of the question paper will be placed at a better merit position
Candidate having lesser number of negative responses in the Section E of the question paper will be placed at a better merit position
Candidate securing higher aggregate marks (in percentage) in all MBBS Professional Examinations will be placed at a better merit position
