INI CET Anxiety and Stress Management in the Last Week: The last week before the INI CET is a strange time. You have studied for months, still your mind keeps saying that you know nothing. You open a book, read the same page three times, and close it. You check the mock rank again. You scroll through Telegram groups where someone has just finished a third revision of Medicine. By night, your heart is racing and sleep does not come. If this sounds familiar, you are not alone, and nothing is wrong with you. Many INI CET aspirants feel exactly this in the final days. For the January 2027 session, the exam is on Sunday, 1 November 2026, which means the last week starts on 25 October. This article is about that week. It covers how to handle INI CET anxiety, how to keep your revision calm and useful, and how to walk into the hall with a clear head.

INI CET Last Week Anxiety & Stress Management Tips

Anxiety matters because it can take away marks that you have already earned. When your mind is busy with worry, there is less room left to recall a drug dose or read a clinical stem properly. INI CET makes this worse in its own way. It has negative marking, and it is split into four timed sections that you cannot go back to. So one bad start can feel like the end of the paper. The good news is that most of this can be managed with simple habits. In the sections below, you will find the real pressure points of this exam, what research says about anxiety and sleep, a day-by-day plan for the last week, five techniques with evidence behind them, a plan for negative marking and the section lock, an exam-eve checklist, and a note on when to ask for professional help.

A few ground rules help in this week. First, the last week is for revision and for staying steady. It is not for learning new topics. Careers360's own INI CET revision plan for this session also keeps the last two days for light revision, with sleep and mental steadiness ahead of cramming. Second, some anxiety is normal and even useful. The goal is not to feel zero nerves. The goal is to keep the nerves from running the show. Third, you cannot control your rank or the paper. You can control your sleep, your routine, your pacing and the way you talk to yourself. This article focuses on those four things.

Why INI CET Last Week Feels So Stressful: Five Pressure Points

Exam anxiety is not the same for every exam. INI CET has some features that push the stress up.

    • The first is the section lock. As per the INI CET exam pattern, the 200 questions come in four sections of 50 questions each, with 45 minutes per section. When the time is over, the section submits on its own, and you cannot return to it. Aspirants fear the first section most, because a slow start cannot be fixed later.

    • The second is negative marking. A correct answer gives one mark, a wrong answer takes away one-third of a mark, and an unattempted question costs nothing. This creates a daily argument in your head about when to guess and when to skip.

    • The third is the mock rank. Mock ranks move a lot, and in the last week they feel like a verdict.

    • The fourth is comparison. Group chats are full of people who seem to have done more than you.

    • The fifth is the feeling of having forgotten everything. When you are tired and anxious, recall gets harder, and that feels like proof that the preparation has failed. It is not proof. It is what a stressed brain does.

    Pressure point

What it sounds like in your head

    What helps

    Section lock

"If I start badly, I am finished"

Practise a calm first five minutes in every timed section

    Negative marking

    "Should I guess or skip?"

Decide your rule before exam day, not during it

    Mock rank

"My rank dropped, so I will fail"

Read mocks as pacing data, not as a prediction

    Comparison

    "Everyone else has revised more"

Mute the groups for the last three days

    Blank mind

    "I have forgotten everything"

Recall is lower when you are tired. Sleep first, then test yourself

Real aspirants say the same things. In a question on Practo, an MBBS graduate preparing for NEET PG and INI CET wrote that he could not sleep the day before the exam and asked whether he should start a sleeping tablet. A student preparing for NEET wrote that a week before the exam she became breathless, could not touch her books and spent days crying. The psychiatrist's reply on that page called it a panic attack from exam stress and advised seeing a mental health professional. The details differ from exam to exam. The feeling is the same.

What Exam Anxiety Does to Your Memory, Sleep and Score

Your working memory is the small workspace in your head where you hold a question while you think about the answer. Worry uses up that space. Researchers Gerardo Ramirez and Sian Beilock described this in a 2011 paper in Science. Their idea was that worries about the exam and its results eat into working memory and pull down performance, especially in students who are already anxious about tests. This is why a well-prepared candidate can still feel blank in the hall.

Sleep matters here too. A 2013 study in the Journal of Neuroscience kept healthy adults awake for a full night and then scanned their brains. After sleep loss, the parts of the brain linked to anticipating bad events, the amygdala and the insula, became more active. The effect was strongest in naturally anxious people. This was a lab study with a full night of no sleep, so do not read it as a rule for a short night. But the message for your last week is clear. A tired brain expects the worst. Protecting sleep is a form of exam preparation.

INI CET Last Week Preparation Plan: Day-by-Day Revision and Stress Schedule

Use this plan as a base and change it to your own needs. The study part follows the same logic as the Careers360 INI CET revision strategy. It gives your weakest areas and your short subjects a fixed place, and it keeps the last two days light. The stress part is added on top.

    Day

    Revision

    Stress and routine

Sunday, 25 October (7 days to go)

One last full timed mock at 9 AM, with four sections of 45 minutes. Optional

Write a list of every worry on paper. Fix a wake-up time for the whole week

    Monday, 26 October (6)

Review the mock section by section. Fix mistakes only

Check the INI CET admit card status when it is out. Print a colour copy and check name, photo and centre

    Tuesday, 27 October (5)

Short subjects such as Psychiatry, Forensic Medicine, ENT and Ophthalmology, plus your weak topics

Five minutes of slow breathing, twice a day

    Wednesday, 28 October (4)

Image-based questions: radiology films, slides, ECGs, skin images

Go outside for a walk. Keep the same sleep and wake times

    Thursday, 29 October (3)

Mistake log and your own one-page charts

Mute exam groups from today until the exam

    Friday, 30 October (2)

Light revision for half a day. No new topics

Pack your bag and plan the route to the centre

    Saturday, 31 October (1)

Two to three hours of notes or flashcards at most. No mock

Early dinner and an early night. Do the worry-writing and breathing before bed

    Sunday, 1 November

    Nothing new

Light breakfast, documents, reframe the nerves, go

Two points about this plan. The full mock on day seven is optional. If your mocks have been shaking your confidence, skip it and spend the time on your mistake log. And please do not take a full-length mock in the last two days. Coaching experts also advise against it on the night before an exam, since a bad score at that point can only hurt.

Five Proven Ways to Reduce INI CET Exam Anxiety

There is a lot of advice on exam stress online, and much of it is just opinion. These five ideas are different, because each has research behind it. None of them is magic, and none replaces good preparation. They work best when you practise them for a few days before the exam.

    Technique

    What the research found

How to use it this week

    Protect your sleep

Sleep loss amplifies anticipatory anxiety, most of all in naturally anxious people (Journal of Neuroscience, 2013)

Wake at the same time every day, keep screens away before bed, and aim for a full night

    Slow breathing

A 2023 meta-analysis of randomised trials in Scientific Reports found that breathing exercises lowered self-reported stress and anxiety, with a small to moderate effect

Breathe in for about 4 seconds and out for about 6 seconds, for 5 minutes. Stop if breath holds make you uneasy

    Write your worries

Ten minutes of writing about exam worries just before an exam helped highly anxious students score better (Ramirez and Beilock, Science, 2011)

Write freely at home, on the eve and on the morning of the exam

    Reframe nerves as excitement

In experiments on singing, public speaking and maths, people who told themselves "I am excited" performed better than those who tried to calm down (Brooks, 2014)

Say "I am excited" out loud before you enter the centre

    Cut the comparison

Exam coaches repeatedly advise against comparing your preparation with others in the final days

Mute the groups and avoid recall discussions until the exam is over

Let us be honest about the limits. The writing study was done on maths tests and a school biology exam, not on a medical PG entrance. The excitement study used short tasks in a lab. The breathing effect is modest. Even so, all three are cheap, safe and take only a few minutes.

How to Handle Mock Test Scores and Rank Drops in the Last Week

Your last mocks will probably not match your best score. That is normal, and the numbers do not mean what they seem to mean. Dr Soumyaditya, who secured AIR 2 in INI CET January 2025, spoke about this in his Careers360 interview. His rank in grand tests was between 50 and 60 at first. It fell to between 400 and 500 once more students joined the test series. After more revision of his weak subjects, it rose to between 20 and 30. He scored rank 47 in the national mock test before the exam. His view was that a mock is an assessment tool, and that you should neither lose heart nor feel too sure of yourself because of its rank.

So in the last week, read each mock in three simple ways. Look at pacing: in which section did time run out? Look at accuracy: where did you lose marks to silly mistakes? Look at topics: which two or three subjects keep appearing in your mistake log? Do not change your whole plan because of one score. And do not add new material to fix a bad mock. Spend the time on the topics you already know and on your mistake log.

INI CET Negative Marking and Section Lock: A Calm Plan for Exam Day

Decide your rules now, while you are calm. In the hall, your mind will be too busy.

Start with time. Each section has 50 questions in 45 minutes. That is 54 seconds per question on average. Some questions will take 20 seconds and some will take two minutes. Do not try to spend exactly 54 seconds on each. Instead, go through the section once and answer what you are sure about. Flag the rest and come back inside the same section if time is left. Remember that the section closes by itself, so do not leave your answers for the last minute.

There is no fixed number of questions that you must attempt. AIR 2 of January 2025 attempted 190 questions, and he came out of the hall sure that he had made many mistakes. Your job is to apply your rule steadily, not to chase a number. If a section starts badly, do not panic and do not rush. Take one slow breath, pick the next question and treat it as a fresh start. A weak first ten minutes can be recovered inside 45 minutes. A panic cannot.

INI CET Exam Day Checklist: The Night Before and the Morning

    Keep this list handy.

    • A printed colour copy of the admit card, once it is released on the AIIMS site

    • A valid government photo ID that matches the details on your admit card

    • The route to the centre, the travel time, and a plan to reach well before the reporting time on your admit card

    • Light, familiar food for the morning, and a transparent water bottle if your admit card allows it

    • Nothing else. Phones, calculators and stationery are listed as prohibited items in most guides. So, check the exact rules on your admit card and in the INI CET exam day guidelines

On the night before, write down your worries, do your breathing, and go to bed at your fixed time. If sleep is late, do not keep checking the clock. Lie down, keep your eyes closed and breathe slowly. Many aspirants sleep badly on this night, which is exactly why the sleep you bank on the earlier nights matters. On the morning of the exam, say "I am excited" to yourself, take your documents and leave.

After the exam, you may feel worse than before. Dr Soumyaditya has said that he came out of the hall very distressed, as he was sure that he had made many silly mistakes. His result was AIR 2. How you feel after the paper tells you very little about the result. Give yourself a break until 7 November.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Is it normal to feel very anxious in the last week before INI CET?
    A:

Yes. Mild to moderate anxiety is common in the final week of any high-stakes exam, and a little nervousness can even keep you alert.

Q: Should I take a full-length mock test in the last week of INI CET?
    A:

One full-length timed mock around seven days before the exam is reasonable, if it does not shake your confidence. Use it to check your pacing across the four sections.

Q: What should I do if I cannot sleep the night before INI CET?
    A:

Plan for it early. Fix your wake-up time from seven days before the exam so that you have banked good sleep. On the night itself, write down your worries, do five minutes of slow breathing, keep the lights low and avoid checking the time again and again.
