The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the NEET 2025 information brochure at the official website: neet.nta.nic.in. The authority has made one addition to the existing NEET tie breaking criteria 2025 in which the tie will be resolved by a random process with the guidance of an independent expert committee. The tie breaking criteria is released in the NEET information bulletin. With lakhs of students appearing for NEET 2025, the probability of candidates securing the same marks increases. Therefore, the authority employs a NEET tie-breaking mechanism to assign unique ranks to every medical aspirant. The tie-breaking rules of NEET have kept evolving. For NEET 2025, the authority has added one more rule to the existing NEET tie breaking criteria, wherein when all the criteria are exhausted the authority will apply a random process with the guidance of an independent expert committee to resolve the tie. In case two or more medical aspirants secure equal marks in the NEET exam, the inter-se-merit is determined by applying the NEET 2025 tie breaking policy. For the NEET 2025 exam, the NTA has introduced a revised tie breaking policy to streamline the ranking process. The NEET 2025 new rules for tie breaking policy can be checked below.
Candidates securing higher marks in Biology (Botany and Zoology) will be given preference.
If the tie persists, candidates with higher marks in Chemistry will be considered.
In case the tie still remains, the candidate with higher marks in Physics will be preferred.
If the tie is still not resolved, then the candidates with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect and correct answers in all subjects will be preferred.
Followed by the candidates with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect and correct answers in Biology will be preferred.
In case tie is still not resolved, the candidates with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect and correct answers in Chemistry will be given preference.
If tie is still the same, the candidates with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect and correct answers in Physics will be ranked higher.
Lastly, if all the criteria are exhausted, the NEET UG 2025 tie will be resolved by a random process, with the guidance of an independent expert committee.
NEET tie breaking policy has undergone revision many times. The authority has introduced NEET 2025 tie breaking criteria new rules. As per the NEET UG 2025 tie breaking rule change, the authority will resolve the tie applying the old method however, if the tie still persists, the last method used will be a random process. As per the NEET tie breaking policy, the NTA will resolve the tie through a random process with the guidance of an independent expert committee.

Marks in Biology: Candidates with higher marks in Biology (Botany and Zoology) were given preference.
Marks in Chemistry: If the tie persisted, higher marks in Chemistry were considered.
Number of Incorrect Answers: Candidates with fewer incorrect responses were ranked higher.
Age Factor: In cases where the tie still remained, the older candidate was given.
Application number in ascending order was to be considered lastly.
The age factor was removed from the tie-breaking process.

Yes , the NEST exam is generally considered tougher than NEET as it requires more focus towards conceptual understanding and thinking , while NEET generally tests NCERT based knowledge where as in NEST it requires you to have deeper clarity in Physics , Chemistry , Biology and Mathematics.
