Check your expected admission chances in MD/MS/Diploma courses based on your NEET PG Score
The NEET PG 2026 answer key was released on October 1, but the controversy over transparency in the PG medical entrance exam is far from over. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) released the NBEMS NEET PG answer key 2026, candidate responses and question-wise marks. However, candidates cannot see the actual NEET PG questions and options in the released answer key. Instead, they are shown numerical Question IDs and Answer IDs. The matter has now reached the Supreme Court again, raising an important question: if candidates cannot see the actual questions, can they really use the NEET PG 2026 answer key to verify their answers and scores?

The NBEMS NEET PG answer key controversy began after candidates found that the answer key does not display the actual questions or answer options asked in the exam. Instead, NBEMS has provided candidates with Question IDs, numerical Answer Key IDs, their recorded responses and marks awarded for each question. While this allows candidates to see how marks were awarded, aspirants argue that it does not allow them to independently check whether the answer declared correct by NBEMS is actually correct. The issue becomes more complicated because the sequence of questions, as well as the answer options, is shuffled for candidates.
For example, the NEET PG 2026 response sheet may show that a candidate selected option 2, while the NBEMS answer key lists option 3 as correct. The candidate can see that marks were deducted because the two options did not match. However, without the actual question and the text of options 2 and 3, the candidate cannot verify whether option 3 was indeed the correct answer. This gap between score calculation and independent answer verification is at the centre of the NEET PG answer key dispute.

The demand for a NEET PG answer key and response sheet goes back much before NEET PG 2026. For years, candidates appearing for the PG medical entrance exam received their scores and ranks but had limited means to independently verify how those marks were awarded. Unlike exams such as NEET UG and JEE, the actual NEET PG questions and official answers were not disclosed to candidates. This meant that even if an aspirant suspected an incorrect question or answer, there was little scope to check it against the official key.
The issue became more important when NEET PG 2024 was conducted in two shifts and a normalisation process was used to determine candidates' scores. Questions were raised over differences in difficulty levels between the shifts and how normalisation affected ranks. The lack of access to raw scores, answer keys and the normalisation process further strengthened candidates' demand for greater transparency in NEET PG. Candidates primarily demanded the NBEMS NEET PG answer key for the following reasons:
The NEET PG 2026 answer key controversy has reached the Supreme Court again, with the Democratic Medical Association challenging the way NBEMS has released the answer key. The plea argues that providing only Question IDs, Answer Key IDs and candidate responses does not allow aspirants to independently verify their answers, as the actual NEET PG questions and options are not disclosed. The petition seeks candidate-specific NEET PG 2026 question papers, actual answer options, correct answers and recorded responses. It has also sought a NEET PG answer key objection window, expert review of challenged questions and correction of scores and ranks if errors are identified.
