INI SS Difficulty Level Analysis 2026: The INI SS Stage I exam for the January 2027 session is on Saturday, 24 October 2026. AIIMS New Delhi conducts it as a computer-based test for DM, MCh and MD (Hospital Administration) seats. The previous session was held on 25 April 2026. Every year, the same question follows an INI SS paper: was it easy, moderate or tough? AIIMS does not publish INI SS question papers. Difficulty reviews come from candidate memory after the exam, and they differ by speciality. This article separates what is verified from what is not for the INI SS exam. This article does not rate the 24 October paper because it has not been held. It also uses the official pattern to work out how much time and accuracy the paper demands.

A difficulty level is a judgement made after an exam. It rests on candidate feedback, and it is subjective. Two facts limit any claim made today. First, the 24 October paper does not exist yet in public. Second, as Careers360's INI SS previous year question papers page notes, AIIMS does not publish a question paper archive. So no source can give an official difficulty rating.
The nearest published AIIMS reference is for a different exam. Careers360's review of the INI CET July 2026 paper, held on 16 May 2026, found it moderate to moderately difficult, with emphasis on conceptual clarity and clinical reasoning. See INI CET 2026 question paper and analysis. INI CET is a postgraduate test with a different pattern. Do not read it as INI SS data.

The pattern below follows Careers360's INI SS exam page, which reproduces the AIIMS prospectus for the January 2027 session. Confirm the date, shift and centre on your admit card.
These figures come from simple arithmetic on the official pattern. They are not reviews of past papers.
Time: 90 minutes for 80 questions gives 67.5 seconds per question.
Guessing: a wrong answer costs ⅓ and a right answer earns 1. A guess has a positive expected value only if your chance of being right is above 25%.
Qualifying bar: 40 marks. The number of correct answers you need depends on how many you attempt.
Attempting more questions lowers the accuracy you need, but only if your extra answers are right more than a quarter of the time. This is why a hard paper changes the strategy and not the bar. The bar stays at 40.
Use the numbers above, not guesses.
Set a time rule. Aim for about 67 seconds a question. Flag a long question and move on.
Answer when you can cut options. If you can remove two of four options, your chance rises to 50%, which beats the 25% break-even.
Protect the 40. Count your safe answers as you go. Your target is 40, not a perfect score.
Read the general and speciality parts evenly. The syllabus covers both.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
No verified rating exists, because the exam has not been held and AIIMS does not publish its papers. What is fixed is the demand: 80 questions in 90 minutes, negative marking of one-third, and a 50% bar.
The INI SS (Institute of National Importance Super-Specialty) exam is widely considered highly difficult and intensely competitive because of its deep clinical focus and limited seat availability.
Yes. Each correct answer earns one mark, and each wrong answer loses one-third of a mark. Unanswered questions and questions marked for review carry no penalty.
