The National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the revised NEET 2024 result on July 26. Along with the revised NEET result 2024, the authority also released the statistics of the exam. Based on the NTA’s statistics we have examined the states with the highest number of exam centres and the lowest performance in the NEET 2024 exam.
Compared to last year’s 56.22% of NEET-qualified students, this year 56.40% of students have qualified for NEET 2024, seeing a rise of 0.18% in the number of qualifications. This year a total of 2333162 students appeared for the NEET 2024 entrance exam, out of which 1315853 students qualified. A total of 56.40% of students qualified NEET 2024, whereas 43.60% of students failed to qualify.

The NTA through its press release of NEET 2024 on July 26, released the detailed statistics of this year’s entrance exam. Detailed statistics of the least performing states in NEET 2024, with the highest number of exam centres are provided below.

Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh are the three states with the highest number of NEET 2024 exam centres
Among the top three states with the highest NEET exam centres, Madhya Pradesh is the least-performing state in NEET 2024 with a total of 54.34% of students not qualifying for the exam
Assam and Uttar Pradesh are the next two least performing states in NEET 2024 with 52.30% and 50.74% respectively failing to qualify the entrance exam
Almost 50% of students from Bihar did not qualify for the NEET 2024 exam
The simple criteria to decide whether a state has underperformed or not is by looking at the passing percentage of that state in NEET 2024. The NTA released the overall statistics of the NEET 2024 result, mentioning the total number of appearing and qualifying students. This data is also released for each state.
A total of 56.40% of students have qualified for NEET 2024 exam. Based on this overall qualifying percentage and comparing it with the individual qualifying percentage of a particular state, the least performing states can be identified. Here’s how we have determined if a state has underperformed in NEET 2024.
We have taken the total number of NEET 2024 qualified students percentage as the base, which is 56.40%
Then we have taken the passing percentage of individual states based on the number of students who appeared and qualified the NEET 2024
If the total qualified percentage of a particular state is below 56.40%, we have considered it as underperformance
Lastly, the more the difference between the overall NEET 2024 qualified percentage (56.40%) and the individual state qualification percentage, the less the performance of that state
There were a total of 557 exam cities for NEET 2024. Within these 557 cities, a total of 4750 NEET exam centres were allotted to conduct the single largest undergraduate medical exam in India. Below is the list of the states with the highest number of NEET exam centres. These states had total exam centres in the range of 96 - 600 and hence can be considered as the states with the highest number of NEET exam centres.

All those candidates who have secured more or equivalent to the qualifying percentile and NEET cutoff 2024 are considered qualified students. A total of 1315853 candidates have qualified the NEET exam 2024. The NEET cut off 2024 for general category is 720-162, for SC/ST/OBC category, the cutoff is 161-127, for the general- PH category it is 161-144, for the SC/OBC- PH it is 143-127, and for ST PH it is 142-127.
