The NBE will conduct the NEET MDS 2025 on April 19, 2025, through which admission to MDS courses will be granted. For the NEET MDS 2025 edition, NBEMS has introduced a significant change to the exam format. The NBEMS has introduced mandatory NEET MDS 2025 time bound sections. As per this mandatory time bound section in NEET MDS 2025, the question paper will be divided into two sections - A and B, with particular time allotted to each section.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Master of Dental Surgery (NEET MDS) is an important examination for dental graduates in India aspiring to pursue postgraduate studies in dentistry. With the introduction of sectional timings in NEET MDS 2025, the NBE has aimed to enhance the security and integrity of the examination process. This change in the NEET MDS exam pattern 2025 will present new challenges and opportunities for candidates. Read the full article to know comprehensive details about the NEET MDS 2025 time bound sections and other important details.
The addition of time-limited sections in NEET MDS 2025 is part of a larger effort by NBEMS to enhance the integrity of its computer-based tests (CBTs). This update was first shared on May 4, 2024, and applies to all NBE exams with multiple-choice questions (MCQs), such as NEET PG, NEET MDS, NEET SS, FMGE, DNB -PDCET, GPAT, DPEE, FDST, and FET. This change is a response to new challenges like cheating and question paper leaks that have affected important exams in recent years. By breaking the question paper into timed sections, NBEMS hopes to reduce chances of cheating and create a fairer testing atmosphere.
Just like the previous years, the question paper of NEET MDS 2025 will also consist of 240 multiple-choice questions. However, it will now be divided into two parts - Part A and Part B. For each part, a particular time will be allotted. A brief overview of the NEET MDS 2025 exam sections with time limits is provided below.
Particular | Details |
---|---|
Total questions | 240 MCQ’s |
Total sections | Two (Part A and Part B) |
Total questions in Part A | 100 Questions |
Total time allotted for Part A | 75 minutes |
Total questions in Part B | 140 Questions |
Total time allotted for Part B | 105 minutes |
Some of the key features of the time bound sections in NEET MDS 2025 are as follows -
Candidates have to mandatorily complete the allotted time for one part before proceeding to the next part. For instance, unless the 75 minutes for Part A is over, students cannot switch to Part B of the NEET MDS 2025 question paper.
Once the time for a section expires, candidates cannot return to review or modify answers in that section. The system will automatically advance to the next part of the question paper once the time limit of the earlier section is completed.
Upon completion of the allotted time for the first part, the next section will start immediately. No break will be allowed between switching from one part to another
The introduction of time-bound sections in NEET MDS 2025 has several implications for aspirants. Some of these are discussed below -
Reduced risk of paper leak - By restricting access to the entire question paper of NEET MDS 2025 at once, NBEMS has reduced the risk of paper leaks. Each part in the NEET MDS 2025 question paper will be locked after its time expires, making it harder for candidates to share answers during mid-exam.
Increased pressure on time management - As per the new NEET MDS 2025 exam pattern, wth Part A having 75 minutes for 100 questions (approximately 45 seconds per question) and Part B having 105 minutes for 140 questions (also about 45 seconds per question), candidates must maintain a steady pace while attempting the question paper.
Limited review opportunities - Students cannot revisit the previous part once they have proceeded to another part. This inability to revisit previous sections eliminates the option to double-check answers, hence, candidates must be decisive while answering the questions and focus on maximum accuracy within the given time.

Hi Sakthi,
With an All India Rank (AIR) of 2238 in NEET MDS and belonging to EWS category, your chance of getting a seat in a government dental college depends on a number of factors including the number of seats offered, category wise reservations for the seats and cut-offs for the current admission cycle. Usually, number of government dental services seats for EWS candidates is very limited but reserved.
It is possible to get entry with an AIR of 2238 considering a fair chance out of the not too competitive states or colleges, but I wouldn't bet on it for top-tier government colleges as the cut offs tend to be high. I would suggest that you take part in the counseling rounds and look through the category wise seat matrix for the states of your choice.
Dear candidate,
It very difficult to get admission with 4767 rank in neet mds in obc category for government seat. The govt seats are most closed under 1000 ranks. You can choose private or deemed Universities for this.
All the best !!

Hi Trisha,
With a NEET MDS 2025 score of 398, in SC category, you are above the normal qualifying cutoff and eligible for admission to Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS), Manipal. Admission to a Government seat will be difficult because supply and demand can be limited and competition could still be highly sought after specialties such as Prosthodontics, Orthodontics, or Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery even with qualifying cutoff. It is expected to have an excellent chance for Admission by way of Management Quota seats. Management Quota seats, however, have higher fees are usually more liberal in regards to acceptance, admission requirements and use of NEET Scores. The fee for management seats is based on topics. It can vary greatly from roughly around 26 Lakh to 58 Lakh for the entire course. The entry fee for Government seat can be much less and considerably less competitive. It is a good idea to check the official college website for the most accurate and up to date rules regarding fees and admission. In conclusion, you are eligible based on marks, but decision related to fees and number of available seats under different quotas will affect your admission.
HEY THERE!!
With a NEET MDS AIR of 2238, score of 540, and EWS category, the possibility of securing a government dental college in AIQ is extremely remote.
Reason:
What you can do:
With AIR 2238 (EWS), you will not get a government MDS seat under All India Quota. Go for state quota or private colleges, as there are better chances there. Make use of college predictor tools for better, personalized estimates.
