Ahead of the exam, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda reviewed the preparations to ensure the exam is conducted smoothly, securely and transparently. The ministry has also announced several NEET PG 2026 changes, including state-based exam centre preference, earlier exam city allotment, revised exam pattern and enhanced biometric verification for candidates.
The NEET PG 2026 registration process has recorded a major increase this year. According to the MoHFW, 2,73,183 candidates have completed the NEET PG 2026 registration, which is over 12.5% higher than last year. The rise in NEET PG 2026 registrations reflects the growing competition for MD, MS and PG Diploma admissions in medical colleges across India. With more candidates applying this year, the NEET PG cutoff is expected to remain competitive.

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda chaired a high-level meeting to review preparations for the NEET PG exam. The meeting focused on ensuring the NEET PG 2026 exam is conducted in a transparent, secure and technology driven manner. Officials reviewed security arrangements, exam centre preparedness, candidate verification systems and logistical planning to ensure a smooth exam across the country. The government also reviewed several student focused reforms introduced for NEET PG 2026.

Several important NEET PG 2026 changes have been introduced to improve the exam process.
State-Based Exam Centre Preference: Candidates can now choose three preferred states while submitting the NEET PG 2026 application form. The correspondence state must be selected as the first preference, increasing the chances of getting an exam centre closer to home.
NEET PG 2026 Exam City Slip to Be Released Earlier: The NEET PG 2026 exam city information will be released nearly three weeks before the exam. Earlier city allotment will help candidates book travel and accommodation in advance.
NEET PG 2026 Exam Pattern Revised: The NEET PG 2026 exam pattern has been updated. Candidates will answer 180 multiple-choice questions in 210 minutes, giving them more time to attempt each question while maintaining the overall exam duration.
Aadhaar and Iris Based Biometric Verification: To strengthen security, NEET PG 2026 will introduce Aadhaar-based authentication during the application process and on the exam day. If fingerprint verification fails, candidates will undergo iris based biometric authentication.
