NEET 2027: 120 Most Important Questions From Previous Years

Irshad AnwarUpdated on 21 Sep 2026, 11:48 AM IST

NEET 2027 Most Important Questions From Previous Years: At some point during preparation, every NEET aspirant is told to solve previous years' questions. NEET (UG) is the single national-level entrance examination that decides admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and several other undergraduate medical courses in India. Over two million candidates compete for a limited number of seats each year. The margin between a comfortable rank and a missed one often comes down to how efficiently the final months of revision are spent. The previous year's questions help recognise patterns: identify the concepts, the phrasings and the specific traps that NTA has returned to across multiple papers. Those are precisely the questions most likely to reappear, in some form, in the NEET 2027 paper.

NEET 2027: 120 Most Important Questions From Previous Years

This collection of 120 questions was built around exactly that filter. Every question is real, drawn directly from official NEET (UG), AIPMT and Re-NEET question papers spanning 2015 to 2026. Each question was selected because it satisfies at least one clear, defensible criterion — a topic tested repeatedly across different years, a question that connects two chapters at once, or a short calculation where a single conceptual slip changes the final answer. Each question here carries all four options exactly as a candidate would see them on the actual paper, a clearly marked correct answer, and an explanation written to address the reasoning behind that answer.

Why Previous Year Questions Matter More in 2027

Previous year papers have always been the most helpful resource for understanding how the NEET actually tests a syllabus. NCERT tells you what is in the course. Past papers tell you what NTA does with it, which is a narrower and far more useful thing to know.

That value rises in 2027 for a specific reason. NEET (UG) 2027 is expected to be conducted as a computer-based test, a shift announced by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following the 2026 paper-leak controversy. The mode is changing, but the syllabus and the marking scheme are not. Candidates preparing for an unfamiliar format can benefit from practising questions given below. Which is exactly what a well-filtered set of past questions provides, alongside a full run of NEET previous year question papers for the years you want to attempt in full.

JSS University Mysore Allied Sciences 2026

NAAC A+ Accredited| Ranked #21 in University Category by NIRF | Applications open for multiple UG & PG Programs

    Emversity Allied Health Programs

Get Job Ready in Healthcare | Employability-Focused Programs

There is a second reason. Repetition in NEET is real and measurable. Within this collection alone, the fact that habitat loss and fragmentation are the leading causes of species extinction appears in three separate years, phrased slightly differently each time. Alfred Sturtevant's use of recombination frequency to map genes appears twice. Selaginella and Salvinia as the heterosporous pteridophytes, appear twice. A candidate who has seen these once will not lose a mark on them again.

NEET 2027 Exam Pattern: What Has Actually Changed

Before practising past questions, candidates must know the current exam pattern, because a significant amount of practice material out there is built on an outdated format. A fuller breakdown of eligibility, marking and exam-day rules is available on our NEET exam pattern and eligibility guide.

NEET (UG) consists of 180 compulsory multiple-choice questions carrying 720 marks in total. The questions are divided equally, with 45 each in Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. Each correct answer earns four marks, each incorrect answer costs one mark, and an unattempted question scores zero. The exam duration is three hours.

The optional Section B introduced during the pandemic, under which candidates answered 180 questions out of 200, has been discontinued. Every question is now compulsory. Any question bank or mock test still built on the 200-question structure should be set aside.

The update to a computer-based test has been announced, but NTA's full information bulletin for 2027 has not yet been released. Exam date, shift timings, centre allocation and any normalisation procedure remain to be notified. Candidates should treat the official NTA NEET portal as the only authority on these details.

For context on the 2026 cycle, the examination held on 3 May 2026 was cancelled by NTA on 12 May 2026 following allegations of a question paper leak, with the matter referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation. A re-examination, Re-NEET 2026, was conducted on 21 June 2026 with no fresh registration required and application fees refunded. The Re-NEET paper is the one whose result stands for admissions, and it is the source of the 2026 questions in this collection.

How These 120 Questions Were Selected

A question does not earn a place in a list like this simply because it is difficult. The filter applied here favours questions with predictive value for the next paper. Each selected question satisfies at least one of the following criteria.

Repeated or high-frequency concepts. Topics NTA has tested in some form across multiple years, including C4 photosynthesis, restriction endonucleases, ABO blood grouping, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium and the classical genetics experiments. When a concept resurfaces across several years, it is a reasonable bet for the next one.

Conceptually tricky pairings. Questions that turn on a distinction candidates routinely get confused under time pressure. Ureotelic against uricotelic excretion. Apoenzyme against holoenzyme. Sweet potato as a modified root against potato as a modified stem. These are not hard facts, but they are easy marks to lose.

Multi-concept questions. Questions that require linking two chapters, such as connecting the structure of amylose to why cellulose gives no colour with iodine, or connecting double fertilisation to the origin of the xenia effect.

Definition and named-experiment recall. Straight NCERT retrieval questions covering a scientist, an experiment or a single defining line.

Short calculation chains. Mendelian ratios, ATP and NADPH accounting in the Calvin cycle, stoichiometry in the Haber process, screw gauge pitch. One conceptual slip changes the final answer entirely.

NEET 2027 120 Most Important Questions - Subject Distribution

The 120 questions are spread across the last eleven papers with roughly ten questions per year, and the subject mix within the collection broadly reflects the weight each subject carries in the actual examination rather than an equal split.

Biology accounts for the largest share, which follows directly from the exam structure. Botany and Zoology together contribute 90 of the 180 questions in NEET and 360 of the 720 marks, making Biology the single highest-scoring section and the one where accuracy has the greatest effect on rank once you reach the NEET cutoff and college predictor stage of planning. Chemistry and Physics are represented in smaller proportions, weighted toward the question types that repeat most in those subjects. Such as coordination compound geometry and hybridisation in Chemistry, and dimensional analysis and circuit conditions in Physics.

NTA does not publish chapter-wise weightage for NEET, and any figure presented elsewhere as an official chapter-level breakdown should be treated as third-party analysis rather than published fact.

120 Most Important Questions From Previous Years: Sample Questions

A wider sample, spanning both subjects and years, gives a better sense of the format and the level than one or two questions can.

    1. During the cardiac cycle, which event produces the second heart sound heard through a stethoscope? (NEET 2015, Biology)

    (A) Closure of the atrioventricular valves

    (B) Closure of the semilunar valves (aortic and pulmonary)

    (C) Opening of the semilunar valves

    (D) Contraction of the ventricular muscle

Correct answer: (B). The first heart sound marks the closing of the atrioventricular valves at the start of systole; the second is produced when the semilunar valves snap shut as the ventricles relax, preventing backflow into the aorta and pulmonary artery.

    2. How many structural isomers are possible for the molecular formula C3H9N? (NEET 2015, Chemistry)

    (A) Two

    (B) Three

    (C) Four

    (D) Five

Correct answer: (C). The formula corresponds to an amine with three carbons: 1-propanamine, 2-propanamine, N-methylethanamine and trimethylamine — four structurally distinct isomers.

    3. What is considered the single most important cause driving animal and plant species to extinction? (NEET 2016, Biology)

    (A) Over-exploitation

    (B) Habitat loss and fragmentation

    (C) Co-extinction

    (D) Alien species invasion

Correct answer: (B). Among the 'Evil Quartet' of extinction causes, habitat loss and fragmentation is regarded as the most significant, and this exact fact resurfaces across multiple NEET years.

    4. Which structure in the human body is considered a 'temporary endocrine gland'? (NEET 2017, Biology)

    (A) Thyroid gland

    (B) Corpus luteum

    (C) Adrenal medulla

    (D) Pituitary gland

Correct answer: (B). The corpus luteum forms after ovulation and secretes progesterone, degenerating within about two weeks unless pregnancy occurs, making it genuinely temporary.

    5. Oxygen is NOT produced during photosynthesis in which category of photosynthetic organisms? (NEET 2018, Biology)

    (A) Green algae

    (B) Purple and green sulphur bacteria

    (C) Cyanobacteria

    (D) Mosses

Correct answer: (B). These bacteria use hydrogen sulphide rather than water as the electron donor, releasing sulphur instead of oxygen — evidence, via Van Niel's hypothesis, that oxygen in ordinary photosynthesis originates from water.

    6. Why is colostrum, secreted during the initial days of lactation, essential for a newborn? (NEET 2019, Biology)

    (A) It is rich in antibodies (IgA) giving passive immunity

    (B) It contains only fats for energy

    (C) It has no nutritional value

    (D) It prevents lactation from starting too early

Correct answer: (A). Colostrum's antibody content protects the newborn during the vulnerable early days of life, which is why exclusive breastfeeding is medically recommended in this period.

    7. Experimental verification of the chromosomal theory of inheritance is credited to which scientist? (NEET 2020, Biology)

    (A) Gregor Mendel

    (B) Thomas Hunt Morgan

    (C) Walter Sutton

    (D) Theodor Boveri

Correct answer: (B). Working with Drosophila melanogaster, Morgan linked specific genes, such as the white-eye trait, to specific chromosomes, providing the first solid experimental confirmation of the theory.

    8. In which plant are gemmae, asexual reproductive structures, present? (NEET 2021, Biology)

    (A) Funaria

    (B) Marchantia

    (C) Selaginella

    (D) Pteris

Correct answer: (B). Marchantia produces gemmae inside cup-like gemma cups on its thallus; dispersed by rain, these vegetative propagules grow into new plants.

    9. What is the IUPAC name assigned to the element with atomic number 119? (NEET 2022, Chemistry)

    (A) Ununoctium

    (B) Ununennium

    (C) Unbinilium

    (D) Ununseptium

Correct answer: (B). IUPAC's systematic naming convention uses Latin/Greek roots for the digits of the atomic number, so atomic number 119 (one-one-nine) is temporarily named ununennium.

    10. Streptokinase, produced by the bacterium Streptococcus, is used in medicine for what purpose? (NEET 2025, Biology)

    (A) As an antibiotic against bacterial infections

    (B) As a 'clot buster' to dissolve blood clots in heart attack patients

    (C) As an anti-inflammatory painkiller

    (D) As a vaccine adjuvant

Correct answer: (B). Streptokinase converts plasminogen to plasmin, which breaks down fibrin clots, making it valuable as a thrombolytic drug administered soon after a heart attack.

How to Use NEET 120 Most Important Questions PDF During Revision

Attempt each question before reading the answer. The explanation is only useful once you have committed to a choice, because that is the only way to find out whether your reasoning was correct or you arrived at the right option for the wrong reason.

Practice the set year by year rather than subject by subject on the first pass. Doing so makes the repetition visible. You will notice the same concepts reappearing across 2016, 2019 and 2023, and that pattern recognition is itself part of what you are trying to build.

Keep a short log of every question you answered incorrectly, recording the chapter rather than the question. After 120 questions, that log will point clearly at two or three chapters that need a full revision pass, which is a far better use of remaining time than rereading material you already know.

Finally, treat this resource as a diagnostic rather than a substitute for full-length practice. It sharpens concept recall, but it does not train the stamina and pacing that a three-hour paper demands. Along with this, practice complete mock papers under timed conditions, and once you are consistently scoring well, it is also worth reading through what comes after NEET.
