The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) releases the minimum qualifying percentile and the NEET PG cut off scores along with the result declaration. Only the candidates who secure the minimum percentile and cutoff scores are considered eligible for the NEET PG counselling. However, due to NEET PG seats remaining vacant every year, NBE reduces the NEET PG cut-off. The NEET PG reduced cut off gives a chance to more candidates to participate in online counselling.
The NBEMS released the reduced NEET PG cut off 2024 on its official website, natboard.edu.in. The revised NEET PG 2024 cut off is provided below.
| Category | Minimum qualifying criteria | Minimum qualifying criteria after reduction |
| General/ EWS | 50th percentile | 5th percentile |
| General - PwBD | 45th percentile | 5th percentile |
| SC/ ST/ OBC (Including PwBD) | 40th percentile | 5th percentile |
The NBEMS has announced the NEET PG qualifying percentile reduction through the official notice. Because of the vacant postgraduate (PG) seats following the conclusion of the second round of the NEET PG counselling, the NEET PG cutoff has been reduced in past years. Citing this, the Indian Medical Association-Junior Doctors Network (IMA-JDN) wrote a letter to the health minister highlighting that despite the concerted efforts of the National Board of Examinations (NBE) and other agencies, a significant number of PG seats remain unfilled across the country.
The association expressed its worry that this issue is causing a shortage of specialists, thus affecting the quality of healthcare services in the country. The IMA-JDN has urged the government and concerned authorities that just like the previous instances, the NEET PG cut off 2024 should be reduced. Bringing such a move to reduce the cut-off percentile marks for NEET PG 2024 will allow candidates a chance to participate in the ongoing counselling.
The NEET PG cut off is reduced in terms of the qualifying percentile by NBE if many PG medical seats remain vacant. The NBEMS has set different minimum qualifying percentile for the NEET PG exam as per the category of the student. The General/ EWS candidates need to score a minimum of 50th percentile score, for general PwBD candidates, the minimum qualifying percentile criteria is 45th percentile, whereas, candidates from the reserved category such as SC/ ST/ OBC are required to score a minimum of 40th percentile.
The cut off percentile of NEET PG has been reduced by the authorities in past years. In 2023, the NEET PG qualifying marks were reduced to zero percentile for all the category students. This sparked controversy and was criticised heavily that even a score of zero in NEET PG can guarantee a seat in a speciality postgraduate medical programme. Many considered this as a complete mockery and questioned the integrity of the NEET PG exam, citing that if the qualifying percentile is being set to zero, then there is no need for even holding an entrance exam.
Similarly, in 2022, the qualifying percentile was reduced by 15 percentile in NEET PG 2022. Not only in NEET PG, but the NBEMS has also even reduced the cutoff of NEET MDS, and NEET SS too in previous years. A historical NEET PG reduced cut-off data is provided in the table below.
Year | Original qualifying percentile | Qualification percentile after reduction |
2023 | 50th percentile | Zero percentile |
2022 | 50th percentile |

By reducing the qualifying percentile of NEET PG, a greater number of aspirants are eligible to participate in the remaining rounds of online counselling. This will ensure that most of the NEET PG medical seats in India are filled. However, this reduced NEET PG cut off 2024 may make things harder for applicants who wait for the remaining rounds as well as the candidates who are looking for an upgradation of seat.

Hello aspirant,
With a rank of 1760 in the NTRUHS PG management quota (B-category) and belonging to the AU region, getting a clinical seat is possible but mostly in the mid or lower-demand branches. High-demand clinical courses like Radiology, Dermatology and General Medicine generally close at much lower ranks, but seats in branches such as ENT, Opthalmology, Psychiatry, Anesthesia or General Surgery may still be available depending on this year's vacancy movement during later rounds. Keep track of round - wise allotments for clearer chances.

Hello,
With an All India rank of around 82,471 and UP state rank around 4,633 , your chances for MS Surgery in government colleges are very low. You may get a seat in private or deemed colleges , mainly in UP. Chances in other states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu are lower due to domicile rules and local quota preference.
Choice filling strategy:
Top: Private/deemed colleges in UP for Surgery.
Backup: Other clinical branches (Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology) in private/deemed colleges.
Safe: Non-clinical or less competitive branches in private/deemed colleges.
Tips:
Check fees, bond, and stipend before choosing.
Be flexible with branch and college to secure a seat.
You have a non-zero chance if you focus on private/deemed colleges and plan your choices wisely.
Hope it helps !
