Why NEET 2016 exam was unique?

The NEET UG exam was introduced in 2016. Initially, the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) was to be held as usual. However, following a Supreme Court ruling, the government was instructed to conduct a single entrance examination for all medical and dental colleges in India. The result was the introduction of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). NEET 2016 exam was conducted in 2 phases:

    • NEET phase 1: This was AIPMT 2016 held on May 1, 2016.

    • NEET phase 2: The exam was conducted on July 24, 2016 for students who did not appear in the phase 1 examination.
