NEET PG 2024 Topper Interview - Dr Saikumar (AIR 3)
NEET PG 2024 topper AIR 3

Dr Saikumar: I checked my NEET PG results for almost 30 minutes and could not believe that I got a single-digit rank and got so overwhelmed that I started crying.

Careers360: Tell us something about your background.

Dr Saikumar: I have done my MBBS from KIMS, Hubli. This was my first attempt at NEET-PG.

Careers360: How did your family support you in your journey?

Dr Saikumar: My mother and sister got excited when they saw my rank. They have been my constant support throughout this journey. Due to postponements, I got a lot of anxiety and they helped me through it.

Careers360: Did you appear for any other PG medical entrance examination?

Dr Saikumar: I gave INI-CET in May 2024 and got Rank 89.

Careers360: How did you prepare for NEET PG 2024?

Dr Saikumar: I used Marrow as my primary source of preparation during my final year and, I watched all the videos and solved qbank along with them, and was able to finish all the clinical subjects. During my internship, I was able to finish the paraclinical subjects. I would focus on my low-scoring subjects in Grand tests and would avoid doing the subjects I was confident about to save time. While solving MCQs, I would make a list of topics I would get wrong, and study in depth about it.

Careers360: How much time did you devote to self-study vs. coaching and how do you manage to do both?

Dr Saikumar: I started preparing sincerely using Marrow in my final year and was able to revise thrice before the exam.

Careers360: Did you take any mock tests to prepare for NEET PG 2024 preparations?

Dr Saikumar: I used to give Marrow Grand tests once in two weeks during my internship and was very consistent with it. I gave around 22 Grand tests.

Careers360: Did you have any specific exam day strategy?

Dr Saikumar: I went through my 20th notebook, which comprised around 25-30 pages of important high-yield topics.

Careers360: Any message or advice for future medical aspirants?

Dr Saikumar: Don’t forget to solve the previous year's topics, keep solving qbanks and that would be a game-changer.

Hello aspirant,

With a rank of 1760 in the NTRUHS PG management quota (B-category) and belonging to the AU region, getting a clinical seat is possible but mostly in the mid or lower-demand branches. High-demand clinical courses like Radiology, Dermatology and General Medicine generally close at much lower ranks, but seats in branches such as ENT, Opthalmology, Psychiatry, Anesthesia or General Surgery may still be available depending on this year's vacancy movement during later rounds. Keep track of round - wise allotments for clearer chances.

Hello,

Your chances of securing an MD seat in government colleges are extremely low with 120349 NEET PG 2025 rank. However, you may still have chances in private medical colleges, deemed universities, or less competitive branches depending on your category and state quota.

Hope it helps.

Hello,

With an All India rank of around 82,471 and UP state rank around 4,633 , your chances for MS Surgery in government colleges are very low. You may get a seat in private or deemed colleges , mainly in UP. Chances in other states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu are lower due to domicile rules and local quota preference.

Choice filling strategy:

  1. Top: Private/deemed colleges in UP for Surgery.

  2. Backup: Other clinical branches (Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology) in private/deemed colleges.

  3. Safe: Non-clinical or less competitive branches in private/deemed colleges.

Tips:

  • Check fees, bond, and stipend before choosing.

  • Be flexible with branch and college to secure a seat.

You have a non-zero chance if you focus on private/deemed colleges and plan your choices wisely.

Hope it helps !
