Re NEET UG Marks vs Rank 2026: Tie-breaking Criteria

While allotting the ranks, there might be instances where although candidates may have scored equal marks but there might be different ranks allocated to them. This different AIR even after the same scores is because of the NTA’s NEET tie-breaking criteria which is explained below.

    • Higher marks in Biology (Botany + Zoology) gets the better rank.

    • If the tie remains, higher marks in Chemistry are considered.

    • If the tie still continues, higher marks in Physics are considered.

    • If the marks are still the same, the candidate with fewer wrong answers overall (better accuracy in all subjects) gets the higher rank.

    • If the tie remains, the candidate with fewer wrong answers in Biology is ranked higher.

    • If still tied, the candidate with fewer wrong answers in Chemistry gets preference.

    • If the tie is still not broken, the candidate with fewer wrong answers in Physics is ranked higher.

    • If all these criteria are exactly the same, NTA uses a computerised random selection process under the supervision of an independent expert committee to decide the final rank.
