Candidates wearing customary dress due to religious beliefs must specify the same during the NEET 2026 application. Such candidates have to select the customary dress option while filling out the NEET application form. It must be noted that students with NEET customary dress code must reach the examination centre at least one hour before the reporting time and follow all the instructions outlined by the authority. NEET 2026 customary dress by NTA

The NTA has specified a special dress code for candidates who opted for customary dress during the NEET 2026 application process. Candidates wearing customary/ cultural/ religious dresses such as turban, hijab, or burqa must reach the exam centre early at least an hour before the reporting time to allow proper frisking and security procedures well on time. As per the Delhi High Court order, candidates adhering to religious beliefs are permitted to wear customary dress for NEET. Such items are considered customary dress by the authorities. Sikh candidates are allowed to carry traditional kangha, kara, and kirpan with them. Female candidates are also allowed to wear hijab or burqa in the NEET 2026.

The NTA has specified the list of items for candidates who fail to follow the dress code for NEET exam due to religious beliefs. Such candidates can take the below mentioned items with them under the customary dress code for NEET.

NEET dress code for male candidates

What to wear for NEET exam: Male candidates can wear half-sleeved shirts, t-shirts, plain pants, trousers with pockets, light and simple clothes

What to avoid in NEET exam: Bulky garments with zips, large buttons, sequins or embroideries are not allowed.

NEET dress code for female candidates

What to wear for NEET exam: Female candidates can wear light-coloured denim pants and half-sleeve t-shirts with medium size buttons.

NEET prohibited items list: Brooches, badges, flowers, jeans, jewellery, leggings, palazzos, large size or abnormal size buttons, kurtis and dark printed clothes.

Things to carry at the NEET exam centre

  • NEET 2026 admit card: NEET admit card is an important document as no student will be allowed to enter the exam hall without it.

  • ID proof: It is important for candidates to carry a valid ID proof to avoid any inconvenience on the exam day.

  • Passport size photograph: A passport-size photograph must be carried by the candidate to the exam centre.

  • Proforma: A coloured postcard-size photo needs to be affixed on the proforma and should be carried to the examination hall.
