NTA has declared the Re NEET 2026 result with the exam and result statistics. Among all reservation categories, OBC-NCL candidates recorded the highest number of qualified students, which is nearly half of all reserved-category qualifiers. While this shows the large participation of OBC-NCL candidates in the examination, it also has important implications for state quota counselling, category-wise closing ranks, and MBBS admission cutoffs.

As the NEET result is out now, NTA has published the complete NEET exam statistics along with the result. As per NTA, a total number of 11,21,185 candidates qualified out of 1,999,895 students who appeared in the exam, which makes Re NEET 2026 pass percentage of 56.05%.
Category-Wise Analysis: OBC-NCL candidates emerged as the largest qualified category in the Re NEET result 2026, with 5.12 lakh candidates clearing the examination. OBC-category students are nearly 46% of the total 11.21 lakh qualified candidates, followed by the General category with 2.91 lakh qualifiers.
The larger number of OBC-NCL qualifiers does not mean that OBC cutoffs will decrease. In fact, the opposite may happen in several states. Since more OBC-NCL candidates have qualified, competition for the reserved OBC seats is expected to increase, especially in states having limited government MBBS seats. Due to the higher competition within the OBC category.
OBC state quota closing ranks may extend deeper.
Admission marks may remain high despite reservations.
Government medical seats may become more competitive than last year.
According to NEET counselling, 15% seats are filled through the All India Quota (AIQ). 85% seats are allotted through the respective state counselling authorities.
Since state counselling primarily depends on domicile candidates. There will be various impacts during the NEET 2026 counselling for the states having a high number of OBC-NCL qualifiers
Higher first-round cutoffs
Smaller mark differences between General and OBC closing ranks
Increased competition in government colleges
More shifts during Round 2 and mop-up rounds
Since OBC-NCL candidates also compete for unreserved seats based on merit, many high scorers are likely to secure open-category seats while their reserved seats become available for lower-ranked OBC candidates during counselling.
