Following the previous four years' data, we analysed that there is a slight difference between the NEET 2025 and NEET 2026 registered and appeared candidates' patterns.
NEET UG | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 | 2026 |
Total Registered | 18,72,343 | 20,87,462 | 24,06,079 | 22,76,069 | 22,79,743 |
Total Appeared | 17,64,571 | 20,38,596 | 23,33,297 | 22,09,318 | 22,05,035 |
Total Qualified | 9,93,069 | 11,45,976 | 13,15,853 | 12,36,531 | - |
Qualified/Appeared Ratio | 56.28% | 56.21% | 56.39% | 55.97% | - |
In NEET 2026, earlier, when the NEET exam was conducted on May 03, around 22.79 lakh students registered for the NEET 2026 exam, of which around 22.05 lakh students appeared in the exam. It is expected that the number of students who appeared for RE-NEET will be less than the number who appeared for the original exam date. In the RE-NEET, the total number of students who appeared for the exam is expected to be below 22 lakh.
By evaluating this trend, we observed that the qualification rate is consistently around 56 per cent over the years. So students can expect that around 12 lakh candidates will qualify for RE-NEET this time.

There are multiple factors that lead to changes in the cutoff. The three primary factors that we have observed are: The difficulty level of the paper, additional time, and an increase in the number of seats.
The difficulty level of the paper is one factor impacting the NEET cutoffs, but besides that, the other important factor, which most of the students ignore, is the seat count in the medical colleges. However, if the paper is tougher, then all the students are affected by this, and it leads to lower cutoff scores, but ranks will not vary. That is why it is suggested that students should not only focus on marks but also understand the rank trends and seat trends.
Another factor for RE-NEET 2026 is that an additional 15 minutes was allocated to the students for attempting the paper, considering the difficulty level of the exam. This enables students to attempt more questions, resulting in 4-8 extra marks, which will slightly increase the scores compared to the previous years.
The increase in the number of MBBS seats also plays a crucial role. More seats mean less competition as well. Following the seat trend analysis, we observed:
Seats Offered by the Government and Deemed Medical Institutions in 2026
Year | Colleges | Seats 2024 | Seats 2025 | Seats 2026 |
Government Govt. + Govt. (Society) | 455 | 60,485 | 63,683 (+3,198) | ~67,500 (+3,817) |
Trust / Society / Private / Deemed / All non-govt. | 364 | 57,265 | 65,343 (+8,078) | ~70,000 (+4,657) |
Grand total | 819 | 1,17,750 | 1,29,026 (+11,276) | ~1,37,500 (+8,474) |
A growth in the MBBS seats at the government medical colleges. GMC offered 60485 seats in 2024, which was increased to 63683 in 2025.
A growth in the MBBS seats at the private or deemed medical institutions, as the seats increased from 57265 in 2024 to 65343 in 2025.
The growth in the GMC and private medical colleges' seats results in the overall growth of the total MMBS seats from 1.17 lakh in 2024 to 1.29 lakh in 2025.
For NEET 2026, it is estimated that the total number of MBBS seats available will be approximately 1.38 lakh, indicating a growth of around 9000 seats. As the number of seats increases, students' chances of securing admission also increase, and aspirants will get admission opportunities even at a higher cutoff rank than the previous year.
Year | No. of Deemed University | Total Seats | YOY % Growth |
2023 | 51 | 10,087 | - |
2024 | 57 | 11,186 | 10.89% |
2025 | 58 | 17,649 | 57.78% |
YOY Growth (2023 → 2025) = 74.97%
Based on the table above, the total seat count in 2023 was 10,087, which was increased to 11,186 in 2024, and in 2025, the seat count was 17,649. As per this trend, the seat count in Re-NEET 2026 may be approximately between 19,000 20000, demonstrating that the number of seats for the deemed universities this year in 2026 will be more; it will be almost double the number of seats in 2023. Thus, with the increase in the number of MBBS seats in the deemed universities, the competition will decrease.
The deemed universities' fees are relatively higher, so around 95-97 per cent of the students in India can not afford the high-priced colleges, which eventually makes the competition low. However, many of the deemed universities in India are rich in legacy; these institutions have been offering high-quality education and producing great professionals in the past 30 - 40 years.

NIRF is the National Institutional Ranking Framework, which provides rankings to about 14-15 different institutions in India, and these rankings are released by the Government of India. We have picked some of the top-deemed medical universities in India to help you better understand your possibilities of securing an MBBS seat in the top private or deemed medical universities in India.
Among these top private medical colleges, Kasturba Medical College was also competing with the GMC (Government Medical College), as last year the highest closing rank for an MBBS seat in the GMC was around 26,000-27,000. The highest closing rank and annual fees for these top-deemed medical colleges will give students an idea about their admission chances.
So even with high ranks that are well beyond 4-5 lakh, if you are still keen on getting a medical seat in one of the deemed universities, there are chances that you might get the seat in one of the top 10 deemed universities through management or NRI quota.
