At the same time, there has been an increase in the number of MBBS seats and a decline in the number of qualified candidates, which could influence cutoff in subsequent counselling rounds.

The major highlights of the Tamil Nadu NEET UG counselling cutoff 2026 are:
Tamil Nadu has 13,999 MBBS seats across government and private colleges
Government MBBS seats increased from 5,200 in 2025 to 5,349 in 2026.
Private MBBS seats increased from 7,800 to 8,650.
The total number of MBBS seats increased by 999.
The number of students qualified from Tamil Nadu decreased from 76,181 in 2025 to 61,306 in 2026.
Madras Medical College had the highest Round 1 NEET UG cutoff, closing at state rank 70.
Several leading government colleges recorded Round 1 closing ranks close to their 2025 figures.

The Tamil Nadu NEET cutoff 2026 vs 2025 comparison shows that Round 1 closing ranks have remained relatively close for many of the top colleges. For example, Madras Medical College closed at rank 70 in both years. Stanley Medical College moved marginally from 248 in 2025 to 247 in 2026, while Kilpauk Medical College moved from 418 to 381. Government Medical College, Omandurar also improved from 581 to 537.
However, some colleges recorded a higher closing rank in 2026. Madurai Medical College moved from 546 to 558, while Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College moved from 921 to 983. Government Vellore Medical College changed from 1,134 to 1,213.
Among private colleges, several institutions also recorded broadly comparable Round 1 closing ranks. Trichy SRM Medical College, for example, moved from 3,607 in 2025 to 3,572 in 2026.
