MCC NEET 2026 counselling seat upgradation means chances of getting a seat that is higher in the candidate’s preference list in a subsequent counselling round than the seat allotted to the candidate in an earlier round. For example, suppose a candidate fills choices in this order:
AIIMS Delhi
AIIMS Jodhpur
Maulana Azad Medical College
VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital
Another government medical college
If the candidate is allotted choice 4 in Round 1, they may participate in the subsequent round hoping to obtain one of the higher choices, based on their NEET rank, category, choices and availability. If the candidate gets choice 2 in the next round, this is called seat upgradation in MCC NEET counselling 2026.
For NEET counselling seat upgradation, candidates will have to choose one of the options after the seat allotment. Candidates allotted a seat in Round 1, Round 2 and Round 3 may opt for upgradation to the subsequent counselling round, wherever applicable. The options are:
Willing for Upgradation: Candidate accepts the allotted seat and wishes to be considered for a higher-preference seat in the next round.
Not Willing for Upgradation: Candidate accepts the allotted seat and exits the upgradation process.
Candidates who choose seat upgradation for MCC NEET counselling 2026 will have to do so in online mode only. Earlier, candidates who were allotted a seat had to report physically to the allotted college even if they wanted to participate in the next counselling round for a better seat. This change is expected to save both time and travel expenses for candidates.
If a candidate is allotted an upgraded seat in the subsequent round, the previously allotted seat is automatically cancelled. Candidates cannot retain both seats simultaneously. The vacated seat is returned to the counselling pool and becomes available for allotment according to the applicable MCC counselling rules.
