NEET 2027 High-Weightage Chapters in Chemistry: Most Important Topics

Irshad AnwarUpdated on 27 Aug 2026, 02:18 PM IST

NEET 2027 High-Weightage Chapters in Chemistry: Chemistry is the subject NEET aspirants most often underestimate strategically, even though it's usually the easiest to score high quickly. It contributes 45 of the 180 questions and 180 of the 720 total marks. The paper is split across Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry. Unlike Physics, many chemistry questions are direct, fact-based, and highly predictable once you know which chapters get tested. Chemistry is usually where you can bank the fastest, most reliable marks per hour of study in the NEET exam.

This article breaks down NEET 2027 Chemistry by chapter-wise weightage based on the six-year analysis (2021–2026) of previous NEET papers. The NTA does not publish an official weightage list. So, this is a trend-based planning resource. It's created as per the current rationalised NEET syllabus.

    NEET 2027 Chemistry Exam Pattern

Chemistry contributes 45 questions out of 180 total NEET questions — 25% of the paper. Chemistry carries 180 marks out of 720 total marks. Each correct answer scores +4; each incorrect answer deducts 1 mark; unattempted questions score zero. Chemistry spans 20 chapters in the current rationalised syllabus, split across Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry

*2026 data tagged this chapter as "Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen" rather than "Amines" — the same underlying NCERT chapter, just a naming variant.

Chemistry Chapters Prioritisation based on High-Weightage

Coordination Compounds and Hydrocarbons are tied at the top of this list. Coordination Compounds saw a sharp jump from 2024 onward (6 and 5 questions in consecutive years) and rewards careful practice with nomenclature, isomerism, and Werner's theory. Hydrocarbons has stayed a consistently heavy contributor throughout the six-year window and is one of the more mechanical, formula-driven organic chapters once you're comfortable with reaction types.

Organic Chemistry: Basic Principles and Techniques follows closely, and its 2026 count (5 questions) was its strongest single year yet — this chapter underpins nearly every other organic chapter, so weak fundamentals here tend to cost marks across the whole organic section, not just this chapter.

Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure rounds out the clear top tier. It's a chapter candidates often find conceptually dense, but it rewards diagram-based practice (VSEPR, hybridisation, molecular orbital theory) more than memorisation.

Structure of Atom, Thermodynamics, and Solutions are tied in the next tier at 5.79% each — a useful trio to revise together since they're all Physical Chemistry chapters with a strong numerical component. Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers sits just behind them and has been a reliably present chapter every single year of the six-year window.

High Weightage Chemistry Chapters Across Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry

    • Physical Chemistry: Structure of Atom, Thermodynamics, Solutions, Equilibrium, Chemical Kinetics, Basic Concepts of Chemistry

    • Organic Chemistry: Hydrocarbons, Organic Chemistry: Basic Principles and Techniques, Alcohols Phenols and Ethers, Haloalkanes and Haloarenes, Aldehydes Ketones and Carboxylic Acids, Amines

    • Inorganic Chemistry: Coordination Compounds, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, Classification of Elements & Periodicity, Some p-Block Elements, d and f Block Elements

Organic and Inorganic chapters dominate the high -weightage chapter list. Physical Chemistry contains medium- to-high-weightage chapters, which matters for balance. A common mistake is over-investing in organic chemistry because it "feels" more scoring while under-preparing physical chemistry's numerical questions, which are just as predictable once practised.

    NEET 2027 Chemistry Preparation

Chemistry is often the subject to increase your NEET 2027 score fastest, but with a balanced Physics and Biology plan. Once this list is over, revisit the high-weightage Biology chapters for NEET and high-weightage Physics chapters for NEET, or see all three subjects mapped together in the combined NEET high-weightage chapters list.

Study Plan Based On the High-Weightage Chemistry Chapters

Chapters above 5.5% weightage need multiple revisions and consistent question practice during complete preparation. Chapters with 3–5.5% weightage need at least one-time detailed study with a targeted revision closer to the exam. Chapters with lower weightage below 3% — Electrochemistry, Biomolecules, and Redox Reactions in particular still need to be covered. Redox Reactions' drop to zero in 2026 after five straight years of appearing doesn't guarantee it stays absent in 2027. Check the do-or-die chapters for NEET list for lower-weightage chapters across all three subjects that still shouldn't be skipped.

Along with this list, go through the NEET study material and practice with previous year NEET question papers. Chemistry is not about knowing the content. It is recognising exactly how a chapter's factual and numerical questions are framed.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Which Chemistry chapter has the highest weightage for NEET 2027?
    A:

Based on six-year trend analysis (2021–2026, including the 2026 paper), Coordination Compounds and Hydrocarbons are tied as the highest-weightage Chemistry chapters, followed closely by Organic Chemistry: Basic Principles and Techniques.

Q: Is Chemistry easier to score in than Physics and Biology for NEET?
    A:

Many candidates find Chemistry the fastest subject to improve, since a large share of its questions — particularly in Inorganic and parts of Organic Chemistry — are direct and fact-based rather than requiring lengthy numerical work or extensive recall like Biology.

Q: Should I ignore Redox Reactions since it had zero questions in the 2026 paper?
    A:

No. Redox Reactions appeared in every NEET paper from 2021 to 2025 before dropping out in 2026, so a single absent year doesn't mean the chapter is no longer relevant. Give it at least one solid revision pass rather than skipping it entirely.
