The NEET counselling is conducted in multiple rounds for 15% All India Quota seats. Candidates who have qualified for NEET 2026, must register online, fill their preferred colleges and courses, participate in seat allotment, and report to the allotted institute if they wish to accept the seat. The NEET counselling process includes the following stages:
Candidates must register on the official counselling portal: mcc.nic.in by providing their NEET 2026 details, personal information, and contact details. Registration is mandatory to participate in the counselling process.
After registration, candidates are required to pay the prescribed counselling registration fee and refundable security deposit online. The security deposit is adjusted or refunded according to the NEET 2026 counselling rules.
NEET UG choice filling is an important process for seat allotment. Registered candidates have to select and arrange their preferred medical and dental colleges and courses in the order of their preference. Once all choices are entered, they should lock them before the deadline, as seat allotment is based on these preferences.
The counselling authority allots seats based on the candidate's NEET rank, category, reservation policy, choices filled, and seat availability. Candidates can check their NEET seat allotment status from the official website and download the allotment letter.
Candidates who are granted a seat must report to the allotted college within the specified dates with all original documents. The list of documents required for NEET 2026 counselling is released by the authority. Candidates also need to complete document verification and pay the admission fee to confirm their seat.
Candidates who are not allotted a seat, are not satisfied with their allotted seat, or are eligible for seat upgradation can participate in the next counselling rounds as per the rules. In every round of MCC NEET 2026 counselling, candidates have to fill their choices as per the seat matrix released by the authority.
The NEET counselling 2026 is conducted in three rounds: round 1, round 2, round 3 followed by a stray vacancy round, in case seats remain vacant. The authority may conduct further rounds also in case of vacant seats. The NEET 2026 AIQ counselling process consists of the following rounds:
Round 1
Candidates register, fill their choices, and participate in the first seat allotment. If allotted a seat, they can either accept it or opt for a free exit if they do not wish to continue.
Round 2
Candidates who did not get a seat in Round 1 or wish to participate again can register for Round 2 as per the counselling rules. Candidates allotted a seat can also opt for upgradation if they want a better college or course in the next round.
Round 3
Round 3 is the final regular counselling round. Eligible candidates can participate for vacant seats. However, candidates cannot apply for seat upgradation after Round 3, as this is the last round before stray vacancy counselling.
Stray Vacancy Round
After the completion of Round 3, the remaining vacant seats are filled through the Stray Vacancy Round. Only eligible candidates, as per the counselling guidelines, can participate in this round.
Seat upgradation allows candidates who have already been allotted a seat to be considered for a better college or course in the next counselling round. For example, if a candidate is allotted a medical college in round 1 but hopes to get admission to a more preferred college, they can choose the upgradation option. If a higher-preference seat becomes available in the next round, it will be allotted to the candidate. Candidates can generally opt for seat upgradation during Round 1 and Round 2. The option is not available after Round 3.
Under the free exit rule, a candidate who is allotted a seat in Round 1 but decides not to join the allotted college can exit the counselling process without losing the security deposit or facing any penalty. This allows candidates to reconsider their options before moving ahead with further counselling rounds. The free exit option is available after round 1 NEET counselling 2026.
The stray vacancy round of NEET counselling 2026 is conducted to fill seats that remain vacant after all regular counselling rounds. Candidates who are eligible under the counselling guidelines and do not hold a joined seat after the earlier counselling rounds can participate in this round.
