NTA has introduced several new rules for NEET UG 2026. These NEET 2026 new rules introduced by NTA are as following -
NTA has introduced a new rule for the verification of applicants while filling out the NEET 2026 application form. While filling the application form, candidates are required to complete an eKYC process based on the Aadhaar card details. The details of the candidates will be cross-checked with the Aadhaar database while filling the application form.
During the online form submission, a live photograph of the applicant will be taken. The system will then automatically compare the live photograph of the applicants with the Aadhaar photograph. Only such candidates whose live photograph matches the Aadhaar card photo will be allowed to fill the NEET UG 2026 application form.
In case, if any candidate’s live photograph does not match with the Aadhaar photograph, they will have to upload a valid supporting certificate. The details of the supporting certificates are provided in the NEET 2026 information bulletin.
A new selection rule for selecting the exam city for NEET UG 2026 has also been introduced by the NTA this year. Earlier, candidates were allowed to select any three exam cities of their preference. However, NTA has now restricted the selection of 3 exam cities to the closest exam cities with the permanent or current address of the applicant. This means candidates cannot select any random three exam cities, and instead they will be allowed to only select the closest available cities for NEET 2026 exam centres.

Some of the reasons behind these changes by NTA in NEET 2026 are explained below:
To prevent impersonation and dummy candidates: In previous years, several cases were reported where candidates used unfair means such as sending another candidate to appear in the exam on their behalf. By introducing Aadhaar-based eKYC and live photograph capture, NTA has aimed to ensure that the person filling the application form and the one appearing in the examination hall are the same.
To reduce fraud in NEET registration: The Aadhaar verification process will now directly fetch authentic details from the UIDAI database, leaving very little scope for wrong information. This step will help eliminate duplicate registrations and ensure that only genuine and eligible candidates are able to apply for NEET 2026.
To ensure fair allotment of exam centres: Earlier, candidates could choose any three exam cities, which sometimes resulted in misuse, unnecessary travel, and uneven distribution of test centres. The new exam city selection rule allows the selection of only nearby NEET 2026 exam cities based on present or permanent address. This move will ensure a balanced allocation of NEET exam centres.
