Candidates who secure the required NEET qualifying marks 2026 become eligible to participate in the counselling process. The NEET 2026 qualifying marks will be released by the NTA with the announcement of results.

One of the most important aspects of the exam is the NEET 2026 qualifying marks, which determine whether a candidate is eligible for the counselling and admission process. NEET qualifying marks do not guarantee admission to a medical college in India, as the admission cutoff is different from the qualifying cutoff.     If two or more candidates secure the same score in NEET UG 2026, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will apply the following tie-breaking rules to determine the All India Rank (AIR):

    • Higher biology marks: Candidates with higher marks in biology (botany and zoology combined) will be ranked higher.
    • Higher chemistry marks: If the tie remains, preference will be given to the candidate with higher marks in chemistry.
    • Higher physics marks: If required, candidates scoring higher in physics will be placed ahead.
    • Fewer incorrect answers overall: If the tie still persists, the candidate with the lower number of incorrect answers across the entire paper will receive the better rank.
    • Fewer incorrect answers in subjects: If the tie is unresolved, preference will be given to candidates with fewer incorrect answers in biology, followed by chemistry, and then physics.
    • Random process: If all the above criteria fail to break the tie, the final ranking will be decided through a random selection process conducted under the supervision of an independent expert committee.

      NEET 2026 qualifying marks are the minimum scores required to pass the NEET examination and become eligible for counselling.

    • NEET Admission Cutoff
      The NEET admission cutoff is the last rank at which admission is granted in the medical colleges. Admission cutoff marks are generally much higher than the qualifying marks, especially for government medical colleges. For example, a candidate scoring 170 marks may qualify for NEET under the general category, but such marks may not be sufficient to get admission into an MBBS government college.
