The increase in MBBS seats and the 21.15 % decline in qualified candidates translate to better admission chances for the qualified aspirants. It also affects the Karnataka NEET cutoff 2026. However, the final cutoff will depend on factors such as counselling participation, seat distribution, reservation and candidates' preferences during the admission process.

Karnataka MBBS 2026 Seats Increase: Government vs Private

According to the NMC MBBS 2026 seat matrix, government medical colleges have added 150 seats, while private medical colleges have added 1150 seats. The increase in government colleges means more seats will be available through the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) and 85% Karnataka State Quota. Meanwhile, the additional seats in private medical colleges are expected to provide more MBBS admission opportunities during Karnataka NEET UG Counselling not just to the state students but also to others via the management quota seats.

Karnataka Records 21% Drop in NEET Qualified Candidates in 2026

Even though Karnataka recorded the highest increase in MBBS seats, the state witnessed a sharp decline in the number of students qualifying for NEET 2026. According to the Re NEET 2026 result analysis, the number of qualified candidates in Karnataka dropped from 83,582 in 2025 to 65,901 in 2026, a decline of 17,681 candidates which is about 21.15%.

Will Karnataka NEET Cutoff 2026 Be Affected?

The increase in MBBS seats and the decline in qualified candidates suggest that admission trends will differ for MBBS seats in Karnataka this year. In 2026, the state added 1,300 MBBS seats, while the number of NEET qualified candidates fell from 83,582 in 2025 to 65,901, a decline of 17,681 candidates. Together, these trends indicate that there will be more seats available for a smaller pool of qualified aspirants, which could improve admission opportunities during Karnataka NEET UG Counselling 2026.

However, the Karnataka NEET Cutoff will not be determined by seat numbers alone. The final opening and closing ranks will depend on multiple counselling factors, including the number of candidates participating in counselling, category-wise reservation, college preferences, and the availability of seats under the 15% AIQ and 85% Karnataka State Quota.

Karnataka MBBS Seats: 15% All India Quota vs 85% State Quota

While Karnataka has added 1,300 new MBBS seats for NEET 2026, not all of these seats are filled through the same counselling process. MBBS admissions in Karnataka are conducted through the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) and the 85% State Quota, along with separate seat categories in private medical colleges. Understanding this seat distribution is important for aspirants preparing for Karnataka NEET UG Counselling 2026 and MCC NEET Counselling 2026.

Karnataka's Seat to Qualified Candidate Ratio Improves

One of the biggest indicators of how Karnataka NEET Cutoff 2026 could be shaped is the seat to qualified candidate ratio. While the state has witnessed the highest increase in MBBS seats this year, the number of NEET qualified candidates has declined significantly. As a result, the competition for each available MBBS seat is expected to be lower than last year.
