The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the single largest medical entrance examination in India thorugh which admission to MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH courses is given. However, despite this increase in the competition, West Bengal has seen a significant decrease in the NEET cutoff for the 2024-2025 admission. The NEET PG counselling is usually held in four rounds: round 1, round 2, mop-up round or round 3, and stray vacancy round, conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for All India Quota (AIQ) seats.

In West Bengal, the West Bengal Medical Counselling Committee (WBMCC) conducts the counseling process for 85% of the seats available in the state. The other 15% of the seats are part of the All India Quota (AIQ), which is organised by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). Recently, there has been a decrease in the NEET UG cutoff, affecting both the qualifying scores and the admission cutoffs for different colleges in the state.
The data of West Bengal NEET UG counselling indicates that the NEET cutoff in West Bengal has decreased compared to the previous years. Admission cutoffs for top government medical colleges like Medical College Kolkata and RG Kar Medical College have reportedly decreased by 10-20 marks compared to 2023. Several factors contribute to the lower NEET cutoff in West Bengal. Some of these factors are as follows -
West Bengal has seen a steady increase in the MBBS seats, with the establishment of new MBBS colleges in West Bengal. This increase in the number of MBBS seats has resulted in the lower West Bengal NEET cutoff.
