While filling the application form of the NEET exam, candidates have to select the relevant NEET qualifying exam code based on the educational qualification they hold. Therefore, it is important for candidates to be aware of the NEET 2026 qualifying codes. The NEET 2026 qualifying exam codes are explained below.
The NEET 2026 exam qualifying code 1 is for the candidates who are appearing in the class 12 or equivalent examination this year and whose result is awaited. Such candidates are eligible to apply for NEET 2026 on a provisional basis. However, they must pass the qualifying examination with the Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and required marks before admission. Candidates will have to submit documents for evidentiary verification.
Candidates who have completed 12 years of schooling under the Higher/Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE), which is considered equivalent to the Class 10+2 level, are eligible to choose Code 02. The final two years of study must include English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology, along with Mathematics or any other elective subject, in accordance with NCERT guidelines.
Additionally, candidates who have passed Class 12 through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), state open schools, or as private candidates from state boards need to choose NEET 2026 qualifying examination Code 02 if they have studied Biology/Biotechnology as an additional subject.
Candidates who have passed an Intermediate or Pre-degree Science exam from a recognised Indian university, board, or examining body are eligible, provided they have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology as compulsory subjects along with English. The course must also include practical examinations in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology, as both theory and practical training in these subjects are mandatory for eligibility.
Candidates who have cleared a pre-professional or pre-medical examination after passing the Higher Secondary, Pre-University, or an equivalent examination need to choose NEET qualification code 4 in the application form. Candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English in the qualifying examination. The pre-professional or pre-medical course must include practical (laboratory) tests in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology, and English must be a compulsory subject.
Candidates who have completed the first year of a three-year degree course from a recognised university are eligible to apply for NEET 2026, provided they studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology with practical examinations during that year. In addition, the candidate must have passed the earlier qualifying examination (Class 12 or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects.
Candidates who have passed a BSc degree from a recognised Indian university need to select code 6, provided they studied at least two subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany or Zoology), or Biotechnology during the course. Also they must have passed the earlier qualifying examination (Class 12 or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as compulsory subjects.
NEET code 7 is for candidates who have passed any other examination that is considered equivalent in level and syllabus to the last two years of class 10+2 (Science stream). The examination must include Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology with practical tests in all these subjects, along with English as a compulsory subject, and should be recognised as equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian university or board. In simple words, Foreign candidates need to opt for NEET qualification code 7.
NEET 2026 qualifying exam code for droppers will depend on their class 12 status. Droppers who have passed their class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English subjects need to select NEET qualification code 2. Droppers who have passed class 12 as a pre-degree, need to select qualification exam code 3 for NEET 2026.
Aspirants must understand all the qualification codes and choose correctly in the NEET 2026 application form. Selecting the wrong NEET 2026 qualifying exam code can cause issues during the verification process and counselling.
