For candidates seeking reservation benefits under the SC, ST, OBC, and EWS, the submission of a valid NEET category certificate is mandatory. This certificate helps authenticate the claims of aspiring candidates and ensures that they can avail of the reservation quotas during the NEET admission process. In this article, we have discussed the important NEET caste certificate, its role in the application process, the steps to obtain one, and the documents required.
A NEET category certificate is an official document issued by the government that verifies an individual’s caste or social Caste. This certificate is required to avail of the benefits associated with the reservation system in NEET UG. The caste certificate in NEET 2025 serves as proof that the candidate belongs to a particular Caste, and based on this document, they may be eligible for benefits like a reduced minimum qualifying score, reserved seats, and other concessions during the NEET admission process. The NEET category certificate is applicable for the following categories -
SC – For candidates from historically disadvantaged castes.
ST – For candidates from tribal communities.
OBC – For candidates from communities recognised as socially and educationally backward.
EWS – For candidates from the general Caste who come from economically weaker backgrounds.
To apply for the NEET exam, it's important to upload the caste certificate that is issued by the state government of your residence. This is necessary because, for the NEET UG, only caste certificates from state governments act as valid proof for the reservation category. Candidates must also be eligible under the "non-creamy layer" status to avail themselves of the benefits.
This certificate is for candidates from the general Caste but who fall under the Economically Weaker Sections. Candidates belonging to the EWS Caste are given a reservation of 10% of seats in each course in NEET. So you want to take admission in the BAMS course (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) but your NEET preparation didn’t go well due to some personal reasons. That’s completely okay—don’t lose hope. There are still chances to get into a good private Ayurvedic college with low fees.
First of all, even for private colleges, you’ll need to qualify NEET. The score doesn’t have to be very high if you’re looking for colleges with low cut-offs, especially in states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.
Now coming to the colleges – there are some private Ayurvedic colleges where the fees are not too high, and they also accept students with lower NEET scores, especially in the last or mop-up rounds of counselling. Some of these colleges charge around 1.5 to 2.5 lakhs per year, which is quite affordable compared to other private colleges that charge 4–5 lakhs per year.
Here are some examples of such colleges:
In Uttar Pradesh, you can check out Dayanand Ayurvedic Medical College in Siwan or Lal Bahadur Shastri Ayurvedic College in Prayagraj. These colleges usually have a low fee structure and give admission through UP state counselling or directly if seats remain.
In Madhya Pradesh, there’s Maharishi Ayurveda College in Ujjain, which is quite affordable and takes students with average NEET scores.
In Karnataka, Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda in Manipal is known for good quality education and reasonable fees.
And in Maharashtra, Bhausaheb Mulak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya in Nagpur is one option you can consider.
