In case two or more candidates secure equal marks in class 12, the authority applies the tie breaking criteria to assign different ranks to all the candidates. The Punjab GNM merit list 2026 tie breaking rules are as follows:
Higher marks in Biology (Botany and Zoology): A candidate who obtains higher marks in Biology in the qualifying examination is given preference for the Science Medical stream. For other streams, a candidate with higher aggregate marks in Class 10 is preferred.
Higher marks in Chemistry: If the tie persists for the Science Medical stream, a candidate securing higher marks in Chemistry in the qualifying examination is ranked higher.
Age criteria: If the tie still remains unresolved, the candidate older in age is given preference. This criterion is applicable to all streams.
After releasing GNM merit list Punjab, the authority conducts the counselling process. Punjab GNM counselling is conducted in online mode. Seat allotment is done based on the rank in the Punjab GNM 2026 merit list and choices filled by the candidates.
