All India Rank vs State rank: What’s the difference?

Before learning about how to check the state rank in NEET 2025, it is essential to understand the difference between AIR and state rank.

  • All India Rank (AIR): The AIR rank is given to every candidate who appeared for the NEET exam on a national level which is based on the marks obtained in the exam.

  • State rank: The state rank in NEET 2025 is prepared by the individual state counselling authorities. It is prepared by considering factors such as domicile, category and state reservation policies.

When is NEET 2025 state rank released?

After the NEET results are declared by the NTA, the state counselling authorities begin their registration process. Once candidates register for the state level counselling, the respective authorities release the state merit list which mentions the state rank in NEET 2025.

Note: Some states publish their merit list after the registrations are over for the state counselling process while some states release their merit list before the registration process starts.

As already stated, before NEET UG state rank, NTA releases the AIR along with the declaration of the NEET result 2025. The AIR in NEET 2025 is used by the state authorities to prepare their merit list. Therefore, it is necessary for the candidates to know their All India Rank.   • Go to the official website: neet.nta.nic.in.

  • Login using the NEET application number and date of birth.

The 15% seats in the NEET counselling are granted through MCC while the remaining 85% seats are granted through state counselling.
