Besides that, PGIMER also reserves some percentage of seats for different categories in order to promote welfare in disadvantaged segments of the society. The admission process for 20 postgraduate MD/MS courses of PGIMER, Chandigarh has begun and the application form of PGIMER 2018 has been released. Allotment of seats to qualified candidates will take place as per a combined category merit list and a category wise merit list prepared as per the seats and reservation criteria of PGIMER 2018. As per PGIMER 2018 seats and reservation rules, the number of candidates which will be called for the first round of counselling will be three times the total number of seats available in that category. This year the entrance exam for PGIMER 2018 January session will be conducted on November 26, 2017 and the counselling for the same will begin in the second week of December 2017. PGIMER 2018 Seats and Reservation

  • Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST): Approximately 22.5% of the total number of seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates under seats and reservation criteria of PGIMER 2018. This quota is applicable provided candidates appearing for PGIMER MD/MS entrance, fulfil minimum admission requirements underlined in PGIMER eligibility criteria 2018. It must be noted that PGIMER seats and reservation 2018 SC/ST quota will apply to qualified SC/ST candidates only, i.e. those attaining at least 50th percentile in PGIMER 2018 entrance exam.

  • Other Backward Classes (OBC): Approximately 27% of the total available seats in MD/MS programmes are reserved for OBC candidates, provided candidates falling under this category fulfils other minimum admission requirements prescribed by PGIMER 2018. As per PGIMER 2018 seats and reservation rules, only those OBC candidates attaining at least 50th percentile will qualify for admissions under merit list prepared for OBC quota. 

  • Candidates who have worked/are working in Rural Areas: About 5% of total available seats in MD/MS programmes will be reserved for the candidates who have worked/are working  in a rural area (with less than 5000 population) for at least 2 years (as on or before 30th June or 31st December for July and January session respectively). Also note that in order to get admission under this quota, candidates are required to attain at least 50th percentile in PGIMER 2018 entrance exam.

  • People with Disability (PWD) Candidates: Under PGIMER seats and reservation 2018 rules, about 3% of seats are reserved for persons with disability.

Features of PGIMER 2018 Seats and Reservation

  • Two merit list will be prepared as per PGIMER seats and reservation 2018 rules, one will be a combined general category merit list and other will be category wise merit list.

  •  Candidates from reserved categories are eligible to compete for general category seats, provided they appear in a higher order in the combined merit list.

  • Candidates of different categories are required to obtain minimum percentile scores as per their respective category to qualify for admission.

  • Candidates will be called for seat allotment in the order of their rank in the merit list. 

  • If in first and second counselling, a candidate fails to get a subject of his/her choice, then he/she will be allowed to appear in third or fourth counselling to get MD/MS programme of his/her choice.
