The National Medical Commission releases the data for total number of MBBS seats in India. Every year lakhs of students appear for the NEET exam in the hope of securing admission to an MBBS seat in the top colleges of the country. As the demand for medical education continues to rise, the total MBBS seats in India have also increased significantly. The total MBBS seats in India 2026 are over 1.1 lakh.

NTA conducts the NEET exam for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other allied health science courses in the country. As per the data provided by the NMC, there are a total of 780 medical colleges in India out of which 427 are government offering 59,728 total MBBS seats in India whereas 352 are private medical colleges offering 58,316 NEET seats in India. Total MBBS seats in India 2026: Seat distribution

The total number of MBBS seats in India through NEET are split between government and private medical colleges. The 15% All India Quota seats are offered by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) through NEET UG counselling. The AIQ seats include the 15% seats in government colleges across states, 100% seats of deemed universities and all seats in central universities. while the 85% seats are under the state authority and offered through the state counselling.

Preparing for both NEET and JEE together is possible, but honestly, very tough.
The syllabus is huge. NEET needs strong Biology, and JEE needs strong Math.
Both exams have very different styles and expectations.
Only students with very strong basics and high discipline can manage both well.

If you are an average student, it’s better to choose one exam and focus fully on it. These are my honest advise to you, you can prepare for one exam and crack that exam, the future opportunities are many in JEE and NEET.

Although NEET and paramedical courses (nursing, lab tech etc.) share same core subjects of PCB but the syllabus for NEET is NOT identical with that of paramedical exams as they require extra sections of GK and aptitude that is beyond NEET.

Your plan to shift from online BCA to regular MCA is completely valid and acceptable. The gap years taken for NEET preparation will not affect MCA admission.
You should first try government colleges through exams like NIMCET or CUET-PG for better fees and placements. Top options include NITs, University of Hyderabad, JNU, and Delhi University.
If not, good private choices are VIT, Manipal, SRM, Amrita, and Christ University. Choose a college based on placements, fees, and industry exposure, not just the name.
