NEET UG 2025 has brought a big surprise for medical aspirants - the MCC Round 1 cutoffs have dropped sharply across many top colleges, making this year’s admission chances higher for thousands of students. Even in government colleges under the All India Quota, seats are being allotted at much higher ranks in NEET UG 2025 - for example, the Open category last rank reached 21,190 this year, compared to 19,603 last year. Deemed universities' NEET cutoff have seen the biggest gaps, with some admitting students beyond Rank 7 lakh. This sudden change is linked to lower qualifying marks (General cutoff score 144 in 2025 vs 162 in 2024), more seats, and shifting student preferences - completely changing the admission game for MBBS aspirants.
The NEET UG 2025 MCC Round 1 results have shown some remarkable changes in closing ranks for India’s leading government medical colleges in India. While the very top institutions like AIIMS Delhi have seen only a slight change - moving from Rank 47 in 2024 to Rank 48 in 2025 - many others have experienced big shifts that open the door for more students.

KGMU Lucknow’s cutoff relaxed slightly (1352 → 1628), offering more seats to lower-ranked aspirants this year.
AIIMS institutes show mixed trends - Delhi almost static, Bhubaneswar and Rishikesh becoming slightly easier, and Jodhpur marginally tougher.
Overall, many top-tier government colleges admitted students with lower NEET ranks compared to last year - indicating a sizable shift in 2025’s admission dynamics.
The MCC Round 1 counselling data for NEET UG 2025 shows noticeable changes in the All India Quota (AIQ) last ranks for each category, especially in SC/ST and peripheral institutes. Several categories saw higher allotted ranks this year, meaning lower NEET scores could still secure government MBBS seats in Round 1.

OBC category cutoffs went higher, crossing 21,000.
SC and ST categories saw the biggest changes, with closing ranks beyond 1.1 lakh (SC) and 1.45 lakh (ST) in Round 1 of 2025.
These shifts indicate that more peripheral colleges and new government institutions are playing a bigger role in absorbing AIQ candidates this year.
The NEET UG 2025 MCC Round 1 data shows interesting shifts in the last rank required for admission to AIIMS Madurai, one of the newer institutions in the AIIMS network. While competition has intensified for some categories, others have seen slightly relaxed entry points compared to last year.

For 2025, top ranks are still needed to secure AIIMS Madurai under General and OBC categories, while reserved categories still offer some flexibility for later-round hopefuls.
While government medical colleges saw big rank changes in 2025, Deemed Universities also experienced dramatic shifts, especially with some institutions admitting students with ranks in the multiple lakhs.
College | Closing Rank (round 1) | Year |
Shri Sathya Sai Medical College and Research Institute, Kancheepuram | 1332973 | 2024 |
J R Medical College and Hospital, Tamil Nadu | 734672 | 2025 |
In 2025, government medical colleges generally made it harder to get admission by lowering cutoffs, but the situation was more varied among the top deemed universities. Some of these private institutions became more competitive, requiring better NEET ranks to get in, while others had easier entry criteria. This difference mainly depends on factors like the number of seats available and how many students preferred each college.

Hello
With a NEET score of 490 in the OBC category, getting a low-fees government MBBS seat is difficult because cutoffs usually go higher.
But you may still get chances in some private, semi-government, or low-fee state private colleges, depending on your state and counselling rounds.
Many students with similar scores get seats in later rounds or through the state quota if competition is lower.
BDS, BHMS, BAMS, or allied-health courses are also good low-fee options if MBBS doesn’t fit.
If your aim is strictly government MBBS, a reattempt next year can increase your chances a lot.

Hello aspirant,
For NEET, you must select your central government category, not the state category. Jaat from Uttar Pradesh is counted as General in the central list because this caste is not included in the Central OBC list. Even though you may fall under OBC at the state level, NEET uses only the central list for reservation. So, in the NEET application, you should fill General category to avoid any issues during counselling or document verification.

Hello aspirant,
With a rank of 1760 in the NTRUHS PG management quota (B-category) and belonging to the AU region, getting a clinical seat is possible but mostly in the mid or lower-demand branches. High-demand clinical courses like Radiology, Dermatology and General Medicine generally close at much lower ranks, but seats in branches such as ENT, Opthalmology, Psychiatry, Anesthesia or General Surgery may still be available depending on this year's vacancy movement during later rounds. Keep track of round - wise allotments for clearer chances.
