The percentile scores corresponding to the percentage cutoffs mentioned in the above table will be used to determine eligibility. To level the differences which might arise due to factors such as different difficulty levels of all four question papers, number of candidates appearing in each shift, etc., a normalization procedure was used to determine the right AIIMS MBBS 2018 cutoff percentile based on which candidates were declared qualified in the exam. A separate higher merit cut off percentile detailed in the second table was used to determine candidates who would be considered eligible for the merit list for counselling. Candidates securing ranks equivalent to four times the number of seats available in each category were considered for the merit list and shortlisted for the first counselling round which will start from June 23, 2018.
Normalization procedure is brought into effect when the percentile equivalent of AIIMS MBBS cutoff 2018 percentage for all four shifts comes out to be different. In such a case, the lower of the four percentiles obtained from all of the shifts is declared as the final qualification cutoff of AIIMS MBBS 2018 across all four shifts.
For instance, if across the four shifts, Unreserved candidates qualify AIIMS MBBS exam in the 80th percentile, 82nd percentile, 90th percentile and 95th percentile respectively by obtaining a minimum of 50% AIIMS MBBS 2018 cutoff, then due to difference in percentiles from the four shifts, normalization procedure will be used and 80th percentile will become the cutoff percentile of AIIMS MBBS 2018. So for this year, the percentiles mentioned in the above table were used to determine the candidates who qualified the exam.
This method of determining cutoff of AIIMS MBBS ensures that factors such as exam difficulty, number of aspirants, preparation level of test takers, etc. are taken into consideration while determining AIIMS MBBS cutoff criteria.
