Details about the qualification and AIIMS MBBS 2019 merit percentile
AIIMS MBBS 2019 entrance exam was conducted in four shifts and different question papers were used for each shift. The percentile score corresponding to the qualifying percentage has been calculated considering factors like difficulty level of the question paper, the number of candidates taking the exam in each shift, etc. In case of exam being conducted in multiple shifts, a normalisation procedure is used to determine the correct AIIMS MBBS 2019 cut off percentile. AIIMS MBBS result has been released in the form of merit list which includes the candidates, based on the separate higher merit cut off percentile, who will be considered eligible for AIIMS MBBS 2019 counselling mock round. The mock round of counselling will be conducted on June 20, 2019. The number of candidates selected for the counselling process is four times the number of seats available for admission.
Normalization procedure is used to determine inter-se merit/ranking among those who appeared for the exam. The authorities have used the normalisation procedure based on the percentile. The percentile score is calculated on the basis of the relative performance of all the candidates. The highest score in each shift will be 100th percentile which implies 100% of candidates have scored equal to or lesser than the highest scorer of that shift. Since the exam is conducted in multiple shifts, the percentile equivalent to the AIIMS MBBS cut off 2019 percentage is different. In such a case, the lowest percentile obtained from all the four shift is declared as the final qualification cutoff of AIIMS MBBS 2019 across all four shifts.
For example- if across the four shifts, Unreserved candidates scoring 50% marks in AIIMS MBBS entrance exam are at 80th percentile, 85th percentile, 90th percentile and 92nd percentile then due to the difference in percentiles from the four shifts, the normalisation procedure will be used. In this case, 80th percentile is the lowest percentile, therefore, it will become the cut off percentile.
The normalisation procedure is helpful as it takes into consideration many factors like difficulty level of the exam, number of test takers, preparation level of the candidates, etc while determining AIIMS MBBS cutoff criteria.
